The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 is ahead…but PS4 is about to see the launch of Red Dead, GoW, Spider-Man, and Horizon. Let’s see if Sony can hold the lead.

on the chart it isn't looking so hard .. there is only holidays of 2017 and 2018 year where PS4 was strong, and which part will be hard, other than that 2019 should be easy to top and 2020 even more.

Here in Germany, some outlets of the two biggest retailers occassionally offer the PS5 Slim Disc for 349€.

I guess there's only a marginal chance Sony will drop the official RRP to 349€ for the Disc version.

But at this point in time, a rather sooner than later price drop would be able to slightly close the Europe gap in sales.

Aligned PS5 and PS4 numbers are still so close globally. I guess there's still a possibility for the PS5 to overtake the mighty PS4.

Looks like 2025 can't come soon enough. I really wonder what Sony are cooking behind their curtain.
