The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

It looks bad PS4 is still a major money maker for Sony is Europe so it's not all bad

More than 90% of the world population can't understand how hard is to make and sell more than 55.000.000 PS5 consoles in just a little over 3 years, considering also that on the first two years there was a huge shortage of components, if that shortage didn't happen, there would be a lot more PS5 consoles sold, as it was so hard to get hands on one till the beginning of 2023.

PS5 is trailing the PS4 by nearly 5 million units in Europe?

The PS5 is ahead of the PS4 pretty much everywhere, except for in Europe. It seems a lot of gamers are switching to PC in Europe with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S behind down a lot compared to last generation.

PC is clearly the best choice, no matter how you put it. it is just as easy to use as a console today, no need to tinker in settings as people still think. you get Xbox exclusives, you get PS exclusives, you can play Nintendo exclusives. Most of them cheaper than on console. You can upgrade anytime. The starting price is definitely higher, but you save that in the long run.

I have a gaming PC and went back to console. I really wish people would stop saying it's just as easy as a console. It's not. It's much better than it used to be but it's still not there. You let me know when I can take a controller and quickly join my friends in a party chat while I'm in the middle of playing a game on Steam. This is just one of the many issues I had gaming on PC.

Can you play PC from your couch on your TV? With just a press of a button on a controller?

Yes you can do this. I got this setup on mine.

It has also a bit to do with the price and their releases.

Upping the price of the PS5 by 50€ certainly didn't do it any favors over here in Europe, as did the fact that Sony is slowly releasing their games on PC now, too, removing the need for a Playstation console to play Playstation games anymore. And the PS5 so far didn't really have much must-have titles, especially titles that are not also available on the PS4.

Bold assumption, but mostly higher price and shortages compared to the PS4 is what’s making the PS5 behind.

I'm one of those gamers that switched to PC. Best place to game by far!
