the only thing that matters is how series x/s will hold up long term as the xbox one fell a lot towards the end.
I expected the difference to be considerably bigger taking into account that the marketing for the Xbox Series X|S has actually been pretty decent together with very competitive pricing and GamePass added to the mix. Goes to show how much one bad product can really hurt a brand.
That's partly because of units being diverted into the Xcloud servers. What could have been if those had all been Xbox Series consoles instead (especially when the competition was supply-constrained).
That is definitely part of it. Xbox Series X stock has been relatively limited and using them for xCloud servers hasn't helped with that situation. The lack of any big exclusives last year hurt sales momentum. This Holiday there is Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and the 1TB Xbox Series S to help boost sales.

The weak XB1 gen matters, but I think the middling Series sales is mostly its own doing. Not one AAA exclusive for 18 months, and when Redfall finally launched it was a disappointment.
This is also the reason I’m not very concerned about it though. When the exclusives come, the sales will come.
Are Xbox Series sales middling, though? They're selling at a faster pace than any previous Xbox console. They're only middling by Sony and Nintendo standards (and only by the standards of their more successful outings).
