Here is an overview of the game:
Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Now you can take control of the action and be at the center of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.
Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic.
Discover the feeling of living at Hogwarts as you make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it.

My God, the game I dreamed about as a kid reading the books may be just around the corner! Hope it delivers, cuz I'm pumped!
It's amazing that Avalanche went from making Disney tie-in games to this. If this delivers they'll be a powerhouse of a developer all of a sudden.
This game looks sick. We have so many good releases this year!
This looks absolutely amazing. Really didn't expect it to live up to expectations. Damn this year will be crowded. It is also further in dev then i anticipated, really thought this was going to get delayed. Good stuff all around.
Another 20m seller inbound after Elden Ring and Pokemon Archeus.
Really??? I mean it looks ok but until it is out I am going to assume it is a very generic 3D game. After all it is from a studio that has created literally 0 games that I would describe as anything other than mediocre. I mean I want it to be good because I wouldn't mind a good harry potter game but right now the franchise name is the only thing that puts this on my radar
Is the Harry Potter and/or Hogwarts brand still that big? Ignoring everything else, this is a franchise that peaked in 2007, hasn't had a major console release in about a decade, is associated with a controversial figure, and whose best selling entry only sold about 12 million (if we generously combine several VERY different versions of the Sorcerer's Stone game).
Don't get me wrong, the game will sell millions. But 20 million? Really?
The reveal trailer has 28m views on the PlayStation youtube account, neck and neck with Spiderman (2018), in a few weeks it will overtake Spiderman to become the most view game trailer on the platform. So just to be clear, its about to have the highest views of any trailer PlayStation has ever released on youtube.
That's great news for it, and indicates strong preliminary interest, but it's not like there's a direct translation between trailer views and final sales. If there were, Subway Surfers on iOS would be one of the biggest games of all time.
If anything, the Fantastic Beast movies prove my point. Crimes of Grindelwald earned about 30% less revenue in USA box office sales than the first Fantastic Beasts, and both movies grossed less overall than any of the 8 Harry Potter films, despite inflation having been a thing for the previous 15 or so years.
In contrast, I'm going to bring up Spider-Man on PS4. That game landed smack in the middle of two MCU Spider-Man films. Homecoming grossed over 50%
more than Amazing 2, and Far From Home grossed anohter 17% more on top of that. That was a series that was growing anyway while the game was being developed, not declining.
Again, THE GAME WILL SELL PERECTLY WELL, but I don't think that the current wave of hype is the only indicator we should be looking at. And other indicators suggest that this game is not going to reach 20 million.
If I'm proven wrong, that's great for the devs. But them "only" selling 10 million copies is not going to be grounds for calling them unsuccessful.
My dear friend
"Subway Surfers was the most downloaded mobile game of the decade from 2012 to 2019."
Youtube views are a massive indicator of interest. The game has to deliver in the end, but still the indicators of 20m are there. Unlike SpidermN this is multiplat so will be even easier.
The Fantastic beasts films meh performance can be attributed to many things, including their overall meh quality, detachment from what made the OG films bigger (Hogwarts/Youth/OG cast) and of course an uninteresting plot.
This game should be judged on its own merits in how it strikes interest in the HP community (literally letting you live your Hogwarts dream and explore locations from the books/films in immense detail, in an open RPG world), which we should remember is actually much bigger than any of the films. The books are 20x more successful
wow thats insane, looks like they put alot of effort into this.
This game looks exactly how I imagined a full fledged Harry Potter game would be. Not only does this look like a solid HP game but it might just be one of the best RPGs in recent times.
way better than i expected.
I wonder if they’ll include History of Magic classes with a living Prof Binns.
Edit. Nope - 4:12 looks like it might be him and he’s already a ghost.
It's been nearly 2 years I think, since I last saw news of this. Not seeing footage of it until now was giving me red flags (since it is their first AAA-style game), but seeing the actual gameplay footage does away with said flags, and the lip sync actually looks rather good for their attempt at AAA.
I'm actually hoping to wander the grounds of hogwarts and talk to most of the NPC's (hoping it won't be a dead city like Cyberpunk with a bunch of one liner NPC's, considering that world will be far smaller than 2077's).
