Here is an overview of the game:

Razputin “Raz” Aquato, trained acrobat and powerful young psychic, has realized his lifelong dream of joining the international psychic espionage organization known as the Psychonauts! But these psychic super spies are in trouble. Their leader hasn’t been the same since he was rescued from a kidnapping, and what’s worse, there’s a mole hiding in headquarters.

Combining quirky missions and mysterious conspiracies, Psychonauts 2 is a platform-adventure game with cinematic style and tons of customizable psychic powers. Psychonauts 2 serves up danger, excitement and laughs in equal measure as players guide Raz on a journey through the minds of friends and foes on a quest to defeat a murderous psychic villain.

Key Features:

  • Inventive and Unforgettable – Experience an imaginative, cinematic story that mixes humor and intrigue, brought to you by legendary game designer Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango, Brutal Legend, Broken Age).
  • Bizarre, Twisted, and Trippy Mental Worlds – Explore unique environments using Raz’s ability to dive into people’s brains to battle their inner demons, unlock hidden memories, and resolve their emotional baggage.
  • Platforms and Pirouettes – Leap acrobatically through the air, traversing tightropes and trapezes in a varied, challenging, and joyful platforming experience.
  • Behold the Power of the Mind – Wield a powerful array of psychic powers to blast, burn and levitate things, or even slow down time itself to solve environmental puzzles and battle strange enemies.

Psychonauts 2 will launch for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on August 25. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Pretty annoying that Series is the only one that supports HDR. Their codec only work with HDMI 2.1 or something?

Xbox purchased Double Fine while the game was being developed, but since PS4 was advertised as part of the original Kickstarter, Xbox honored a PS4 version of the game being made, but nothing else.

It absolutely can support HDR on other platforms if Xbox authorized it.

But it's not even supported on XBO or Windows...

You got me on that one lol. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they're utilizing the Auto HDR feature that's only the Series consoles because XBO doesn't have the hardware to support it. The feature is on Windows Preview currently and will be added to Windows at some point in the future, and maybe the game will get an Auto HDR update on Windows at that time.

Something I’ve only recently realised is that very few TVs do more than 60 Hz, so unless you’ve got your Series X hooked up to a PC gaming monitor then the 120 FPS output isn’t something you’re going to be able to use.
If you have said gaming monitor, chances are you also have a pretty good gaming rig so are playing the game on that instead.

Yeah, HDMI 2.1 is required to get 120fps, which unfortunately, is a pretty new feature in TV's. And an expensive one at that.

Glad the PS4 version has an increased 60 FPS cap on PS5

It's unlikely as the tab of Max Framerate lists the PS4 at 30, whereas the Series X/S lists the max 60 as well as 120 with the specifics mentioned on the right as the reason for 2 max framerates. If the PS4 version did have that performance mode, it would've been listed as 30, 60 with an asterisk on the 60.

There's no native PS5 version, so the PS5 60fps mode is actually just the PS4 game running in BC

Dick move from microsoft. Not only have the prevented a ps5 version, they also stopped it from appearing on the ps store. You have to search for the game to get to it.

It´s hardly a dick move when the deal only involved the PS4 version and how could they possibly prevent it from showing on Playstations own store?? Sony dropped the ball when it comes to BC, hopefully they can improve the situation.

They probably put a clause or something in the contract where it can't be advertised, why else isn't it showing up?

You are such a Sony fanboy it's annoying lol. Microsoft OWNS Double Fine. Do you know how ownership works? Example: Sony OWNS Naughty Dog. Do you see The Last of Us coming to Xbox? No

The PS4 version was advertised in the original Kickstarter and Microsoft chose to honor that agreement when they didn't have to. There's been a lot of Kickstarters where Steam was advertised, but Epic came in and bought exclusivity, screwing over everyone who was promised a Steam release, having to wait another entire year. A PS4 version was promised and that's it. Kickstarter is not a "contract" so there's no clauses that's keeping it being from advertised on PS. Xbox just doesn't want to pay for it, and why would they?

Lol, what do you mean pay for it. Are you suggesting sony would rather miss out on sales buy not having it displayed because microsoft wouldn't pay a fee?

G2ThaUNiT KratosLives (on 20 July 2021)

Lol I'm suggesting Sony nickels and dimes companies, and one of those things is advertisement, at least $25,000 last I checked, and why would Xbox want to do that for a game they're publishing?

  • +1
KratosLives G2ThaUNiT (on 20 July 2021)

Because they want people to think it's a microsoft gamepass exclusive. A lot of gamers already think so, as do game journalists. One outright said yesterday " only coming to gamepass and pc", paid by microsoft no doubt.

Good. It's PUBLISHED by Xbox Game Studios, thus Xbox will do everything to push marketing towards their ecosystem. The game is also being released on Linux and MacOS, but you don't hear about those platforms being advertised. That's how ownership works dude lol. You're delusional if you think if Xbox is going to be telling players to check out their published game on PlayStation. You don't think Sony doesn't do the same thing.? All the advertising for Deathloop has PS logos all over the videos even though it's coming to PC at launch. Paid by Sony no doubt ;) except that's only timed exclusivity. If a game is being published a certain company, that company will have all their marketing pushed toward them.

KratosLives G2ThaUNiT (on 21 July 2021)

That's because sony has deathloop for 6months exclusive, so ofcourse sony isn't going to put an xbox logo on there. But as for psychonauhts2, it's already been announced for ps4 on same day release, so to prevent sony from allowing it on the ps store game release page or preorder is utter bullshit, lol.

It was recently revealed that sony charge to put games on the front of the store, MS just didn't want to pay, rightfully so.
