After many rumors over the past year Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Switch model. The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will launch on October 8 for $349.99. It will be available in White and Neon Red / Neon Blue color variations.
Nintendo Switch (OLED model) includes a 7-inch OLED screen, a new dock with a wired LAN port, 64GB of internal storage, and enhanced audio for handheld and tabletop play.
"The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode," said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser.
"With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite."
Metroid Dread will launch on the same day as Nintendo Switch (OLED model).

I'm not forking over $350 for just a slightly bigger, prettier screen.
My launch Switch still runs fine, so I think I'll just let that hold me over until Switch 2.
Well that's the idea, isn't it? This isn't supposed to be an upgrade for OG Switch/Lite/Revised users. I'd like to think it's meant for those who haven't bought a Switch yet.

For new hardware? Yeah. But they are sometimes right with E3 rumours and rumours about games.
I still think a switch lite with an oled screen for $249 would have made more sense.
Well that was a let-down for me. I was really hoping for a slight improvement in specs, like we got with the N3DS...
So how long are they going to keep rolling with the Switch's hw, while MS/Sony are already on new gen tech, is my next question.
As long as the Switch continues selling rings around both of them. I imagine the chip shortage figures into their plans as well. This is a wait and see buy for me.

Now that they've got a gorgeous bright OLED they should really make it easier to watch movies stored locally on the SD card. Otherwise it just seems a bit of a waste to buy one of these when they'll be replaced with an actual Switch 2 within a couple of years.
I know this is ridiculously off-topic but Nintendo should also 100% sell high quality skins for the Switch and Switch Lite, they'd make a fortune. Much more money than this price hike will net them.

I’m a playstation guy when it comes to gaming ever since the late 90s! But man does the Switch keeps pulling me closer and closer into buying one! Especially this new OLED model.
Such a revolutionary idea that device is and has an unprecedented appeal that reached me!
Last Nintendo system i had was NES when i was a kid in early 90s!
The huge success is so justified and warranted for the Switch.
I wasn't sure if this review would come out this year, but what I couldn't imagine was that it would come out with Metroid 5.

For $50 more you can get a PS5 Digital Edition or for $50 less you can get the Xbox Series S... this is a troubled price point for a platform in its 5th year.
If this is $349.99 imagine how much a pro model would cost!

So no chip set power increase at all and they raised the price 50 dollars. That's pretty pathetic and just shows Nintendo greed. If Sony or Microsoft did this the media would be all over them.
Completely agree, $50 more for things that feel like minor improvements is something I don't think Sony or Microsoft could get away with.
Sony get away with vita $50 memory card and $250 system, so the real price of vita is $300. Yet many Sony fans keeps saying vita price is only $250 at launch. Or ps2 classic on ps4. PS1 mini games and price too, who complaint about it?
None of those are the same as this. Plus Sony didn't "get away with" the Vita pricing... The system was the worst selling piece of PlayStation hardware of all time.

Also, $400 ps5 digital + $20 disc drive = $500 PS5 physical. It isn't the same, it's much worse actually WOW.
I have no idea where you're getting an Ultra HD Blu-Ray drive for $20, but again you aren't addressing the topic. The Vita was a great system, it had proprietary product issues. It was also the worst selling PlayStation platform of all time. So, no, Sony did not "get away" with it.
You've tried to apply Red Herring arguments to a fairly straightforward topic.
I have no idea where you're getting a HD portable that can run Witcher 3 is cheaper than Switch, but again you aren't addressing the topic. The worst selling PlayStation so far is PS VR, not vita. So, yes, Sony definitely "got away" with vita.

What do you want them to take for a new and bigger oled screen, bigger internal storage, bigger stand, better speakers and lan port? 2 dollars? A lan port costs 10 dollars or more. Go buy those first party Sony games for 70$.
The only fault for Nintendo fanboys producing salt rn lies with their expectations and the news sites that created those rumours. Lmao they expected a portable 4k ps4.
The oled screen, better speakers, lan port and bigger storage raise the production costs. They can't sell this improved model at the same price as the old one and they don't want to cut the price of the old one as long as it sells. This price increase seems completely normal to me.
Switch was already overpriced as is given the ancient hardware and the faulty joycons.
They should have replaced the old model for the new one and keep the price.

Again, there is not a $20 Ultra HD 4k disc drive. Is Sony still looking to profit on the PS5 earlier than any previous PlayStation, yes. Is the system reasonably priced? Yes.
Again, there isn't any $300 (even $350) HD portable that can run Witcher 3 outside Switch. Is Nintendo still looking to profit on the Switch just like all their previous systems, yes. Is the system reasonably priced? Yes.
I don't believe people who buy a Switch are generally regretting their decision. That tells us very clearly that the Switch is not overpriced. People seem content that the 10 or 20 hours of work they trade for the time they get with their Switch is a good value proposition.
Well, it's not Nintendo's fault that everyone keeps speculating on a Switch Pro when they never hinted at something like that.
it wouldn't be if the new revision enabled HDR color which would complement the OLED or be displayable with any HDR TV. a DLSS solution for 4K "upscaling" could plausibly also target the internal screen for higher quality there, as well as superior image on external UHD TV. a better process would also just enable longer battery life.
Does it atleast output to 1080p when docked?
Yeah, that's what the original model did. Even if every game may not reach 1080p in docked mode, it upscales to output that because TVs have fixed resolutions of 720p/1080p/4K.
I'm hoping to pick one up when it lauches in australia, but I won' t spend more than $499 for it.

I mostly play docked when I’m at home, but I do play Smash and Mario Kart. I will try the Ethernet port if I get one of these.
I mostly use mine in portable mode, but it's still a let down for me. I was really hoping for some slight improved specs, so games don't stutter/lag as much for me.
We don't even know if they've fully resolved the drift issues for this new model either.
Actually, this benefits you in some great ways. It encourages sales on the platform, which will in turn encourage more attention from publishers. And it doesn't add additional development cost or time for game developers who could need to do additional work to make their games take advantage of more power. So for you, it's a free upgrade. We're all part of the same community, and what's good for the community is good for us individually, too.
I don't plan on picking up the Switch OLED, but it looks nice.
Looks nice, but I’m not in a hurry to upgrade anything. Maybe I will change my mind when I see it in action.
I do not. I've got a Switch and it doesn't get much playtime now. Plus, we're likely going to see the successor in the next 2 years any way.
