Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Naughty Dog have releaseda PlayStation 5 performance patch for The Last of Us Part II. The game originally launched for the PlayStation 4 in June 2020 and is playable on the PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.

When you install patch 1.08 of The Last of Us Part II on your PS5, you will find a toggle in the Display options that allowed you to choose between 60 frames per second or 30 frames per second.

"This allows you to choose your preferred framerate to complement the rest of the enhancements that are part of the PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games, such as an enhanced resolution, faster load times, and more," said Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Meyer.

"The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!"

I'm trying to be very patient about doing another playthrough of Horizon Zero Dawn before it gets a PS5 performance patch. Come on Guerrilla Games!!! :)

Me too! I want to replay it so bad but I feel an update is around the corner.

I just hope the reason it hasn't received one yet is a timing/SDK/engine thing with the game. So far, Sony has released performance patches for God of War (2018), Days Gone (2019), Ghost of Tsushima (2020) and The Last of Us Part II (2020). But - Horizon Zero Dawn is a 2017 title. Maybe it is just based on such an older PS4 SDK that it can't be updated easily to 60fps? That would really suck.

Not gonna lie. I am just as concern as you now based on what you are saying. The only game that comes to mind that got a performance patch is ratchet and clank remake which is a 2016 title. I still hope it is just a timing thing.

Oh man, how could I forget R&C Remake got a PS5 update! I actually went thru the trouble of reinstalling it on my PS5 just so I could do the New Game+ mode on it in 60fps haha. You are right, that is from 2016, so who knows? I guess I feel that every month that goes by without an update for it, the chances of it getting an update diminish. But maybe Sony is waiting to release it as a surprise to fans when they show the next Horizon Forbidden West trailer - like, also BTW, go and play the original Horizon Zero Dawn in 60fps RIGHT NOW to get yourself hyped up for the sequel lol

Yeah. I am thinking it will be use as a marketing play for horizon zero dawn 2. Sony is very good at that. They stay quiet for a while making you wonder what is going and then an unexpected announcement happens. I am happy that the most difficult thing to do is no longer there and that was getting a ps5. I managed to get one 2 weeks ago after months of searching.

Oh man, that is rough, but congrats on finally getting one! I got so lucky and have been enjoying mine since launch day. Do you remember when the initial unveiling video/game showcase came out, and then pre-orders for it were supposed to star the next morning, but a bunch of retailers just randomly without warning starting that same day late in the afternoon? One of my cousin's friends who works at GameStop texted him and was like "hey our GameStop just started taking PS5 pre-orders without warning" I grabbed my cousin and went straight there, I think around 7 PM, and minutes later we had both secured launch day pre-orders for the Digital Edition. There was only about 7 more left to reserve after us. Pure luck man that his friend told him and we got there in time!

An excellent update for this one and glad to see a game get an FPS boost without having to lower the resolution to 900p.

Hope they put more polish and make a real upgrade (even better if free) for the PS5 even if just basic use of the RTX and some improvement on asset level deployed (using higher version, with less cuts than what they used on PS4)

Obviously they will, but definitely won't be for free.

I'm in the same boat as you but I'm still holding out on buying it. There's a rumor that TLoU1 remake will be bundled with Part II so I'd rather wait to see if it ends up being true. Also, based on the quote at the end of the article, it sounds like there will be future patches coming with more enhancements.

The official ps5 remastered will come out with the tlou1 remake, once the tv show comes out.
