PlayStation CEO: PS5 Will Have Features and Benefits the PS4 Does Not Include - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 November 2020 / 2,940 ViewsSony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with GamesIndustry discussed Sony's next generation console, the PlayStation 5, and how with any new generation their goal is to create a console with features and benefits not seen in the previous generation.
We have always said that we believe in generations," said Ryan. "We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.
"We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."
Ryan has also stated earlier Sony is on track to launch the PS5 in Holiday 2020 and that it would be a global launch.
"We remain absolutely on track," said Ryan. "We're going to launch this holiday, we will have a global launch. And where we're greatly looking forward to it. And we very much want the gaming world to look forward to it, too."
Sony Interactive Entertainment President announced it will be hosting a PlayStation 5 event on June 4 at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT / 9pm BST. It will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube. The digital event will be just over and hour in length and feature a first look at games in development for the next generation console.
The PlayStation 5 will launch in Holiday 2020.

I would hope so
It would be rather strange to say "nah, nothing new to see here".
@JWeinCom To be fair, that’s pretty much what MS is doing lol
Oh cool, what is Sony offering new hardware and feature wise that MS isn’t?
How about BC with PS3 titles? This thing has so much power, they can emulate it by now
Hey , at least we have something new. Just hope for the best , BC with PS3 is good but not that in hurry, PS4 BC first. I do want BC with PS3, PS2 and PS1 hell even with Vita and PSP. But not everything day one and not every dream come true.
There are far more issues there than just power.
What a shocker! And here I was hoping we are getting a re-skinned PS4 with an EyeToy and no br-driver. Man, I know they are trying to keep our attention but they keep repeating the same old, content-ridden stuff that we keepn on hearing for a while now.
Oh what a Wonder^^ ..........
I just want to see new physics and AI in game
Well that is obvious, no reason to move to next gen if it doesn't offer something new. But for me the console only need to play games and anything that takes away from that shoudln't be on it, and the rest is just bonuses.
Lets see.
