PlayStation CEO: PS5 Will Have Features and Benefits the PS4 Does Not Include - NewsWilliam D'Angelo , posted on 01 June 2020 / 1,777 Views
Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with GamesIndustry discussed Sony's next generation console, the PlayStation 5, and how with any new generation their goal is to create a console with features and benefits not seen in the previous generation.
We have always said that we believe in generations," said Ryan. "We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.
"We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."
Ryan has also stated earlier Sony is on track to launch the PS5 in Holiday 2020 and that it would be a global launch.
"We remain absolutely on track," said Ryan. "We're going to launch this holiday, we will have a global launch. And where we're greatly looking forward to it. And we very much want the gaming world to look forward to it, too."
Sony Interactive Entertainment President announced it will be hosting a PlayStation 5 event on June 4 at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT / 9pm BST. It will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube. The digital event will be just over and hour in length and feature a first look at games in development for the next generation console.
The PlayStation 5 will launch in Holiday 2020.
