PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U USA Lifetime Sales – October 2016 Update - Sales

Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U USA’ article. This series compares the monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.

 

Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U in the US in October shows how close the race between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One really is. The gap has shrunk in the last four months.

The PlayStation 4 has sold 14.97 million units lifetime in the US, the Xbox One 13.40 million units, and the Wii U 5.58 million units.

Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 tops the other two platforms. The PlayStation 4 has a 44 percent market share, the Xbox One sits at 40 percent, and the Wii U 16 percent.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 14,969,003

Xbox One Total Sales: 13,402,707

Wii U Total Sales: 5,580,600

 

The Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 in October. The Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 by 101,115 units for the month and the Wii U by 321,240. The PlayStation 4 outsold the Wii U by 220,125 units.

When you compare monthly sales to a year ago the Xbox One is up, is while the PlayStation 4 and Wii U are down. The Xbox One is up 39,835 units, the PlayStation 4 is down 41,618 units, and the Wii U is down 48,236 units.

Looking at market share for the month of October, the Xbox One managed to achieve 56 percent. The PlayStation 4 accounted for 40 percent of the consoles sold, and the Wii U a modest four percent.

PlayStation 4 Monthly Sales: 241,847

Xbox One Monthly Sales: 342,962

Wii U Monthly Sales: 21,722
