The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
Xbox One Vs. Xbox 360 Global:
Gap change in latest month: 212,525 – X360
Gap change over last 12 months: 14,775 – X360
Total Lead: 2,832,362 - XOne
Xbox One Total Sales: 21,055,528
Xbox 360 Total Sales: 18,223,166
April 2016 is the 30th month of the Xbox One being on sale. The gap decreased during the month when compared to the Xbox 360’s 30th month on sale by 212,525 units in favor of the Xbox 360 and just 14,775 units in the last 12 months. The Xbox One currently leads by 2.83 million units.
Both consoles launched in November. The Xbox 360 launched in November 2005, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013. The Xbox One has sold 21.06 million units in its first 30 months, while its predecessor the Xbox 360 sold 18.22 million units. ________________________________________________________________________________________

Xbox 360 went from 7.9 mill in 2007 to 10.9 mill in 2008 and peaked with 13.8 mill in 2011. 2008 is Xbox 360's 4th year and Xbox One's 4th year is 2016.
The next 6 months will reveal if Xbox One is able to maintain its lead.
You're counting full years. It's fine though but then the same applies for Xbox 360.
According to you 2008 is 360's 3rd year as it released at the end of 2005.
The important part was that Xbox One needs to sell more than 10.9 mill this year (2016) in order to beat Xbox 360's comparable year (2008).
Additionally, Xbox One needs to sell over 5.7 mill before January 1st 2017 in order to maintain its aligned launch lead.
