Studio Co-Founder: Ark: Survival Evolved Sales Could Triple With Physical Release

Studio Co-Founder: Ark: Survival Evolved Sales Could Triple With Physical Release - News

Ark: Survival Evolved has been a huge success for developer Studio Wildcard, selling two million units on Steam since it launched in June as an Early Access title.

But the game has the potential to double or triple its sales if a physical release hits store shelves when the full game launches, according to the studio's co-founder.

"There’s a huge opportunity to double or even triple our unit sales by going to a physical release around the time the game is finally done," said studio co-founder Jesse Rapczak. "When we become a final release next summer, we’re going to be exploring all avenues of distribution across multiple regions in terms of localisation and trying to get Ark into the hands of as many players as possible.

"All of the sales we’ve had are just on Steam so far. That’s just one part of the market. If you look at Ark, we’re selling more than GTA V and The Witcher III and all these big triple-A titles on Steam, but imagine if the game was available in all the channels that all those other big games are available on. We might be up there in terms of sales."

Thanks MCVUK.

Perhaps he should bother about finishing the damn game before he bothers about that sort of thing.

Did you seriously just say developers can't plan physically releasing their game until its done...

I know most games seem to come out in early access like Pro Skater 5 at the moment but it's no excuse. Ark is barely functional in a lot of ways. It needs at least a full year to 18 months before it's even near done. This guy should be thinking about retail when the core of the game is complete and they're heading to the polishing stage.

Maybe, assuming he's including console sales.

I'd buy a physical copy of it for PS4, for sure.
