Electronic Arts has announced that its Madden franchise has sold 99 million units over the last 25 years. Revenue for the franchise has hit $3.7 billion in revenue. EA also announced that for its 25th anniversary the next game in the franchise will be called Madden NFL 25.

"There’s no better way to celebrate and mark the culmination of 25 years of innovation than by naming this year’s game Madden NFL 25," said Cam Weber, GM of American Football for EA Sports. "This year’s game will push the boundaries with gameplay and feature innovations that will lay a very strong foundation for the next 25 years of this storied franchise."

With the release of Madden NFL 25 the franchise will join three other EA franchises to have sold 100 million units. The Sims hit 100 million in 2008, Need for Speed in 2009 and FIFA in 2010.

Madden NFL 25 is being developed by EA Tiburon and will be released on August 27 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
