FADE: XBLA Set For Record Year

FADE, Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, recently released a statement regarding the performance of Xbox Live Arcade for the first half of 2010, and their prediction for its second half.

Apparently, XBLA has been blowing up this year, starting in March, growing 13% and landing revenue at $46.1 million at the end of June, a startling 36% increase from sales by June 2009. FADE attributes the rapid growth to Microsoft's "Block Party" event which not only featured the revamp of Perfect Dark, among other titles, but also the release of XBLA Game Room. In addition, following the immediate success of the "Block Party", Microsoft started offering older titles for reduced prices, like Shadow Complex and Castle Crashers.

But that's not all, they say! FADE is also reporting a prediction of continued success through 2010 with the rest of the "Summer of Arcade" in addition to a strong looking holiday season highlighted, of course, by Kinect.

Well the fact remains that XBLA has been doing well, but do you think it can keep that momentum going?

I agree with Zucas. I think XBLA still has way more growing to do. I think this is just the beginning.

Well this only makes sense as XBL continues to become more popular. MS stated that have over 25 million accounts now and obviously they are going to continue to expand their use of it pass maybe the original reason they got it. I'd also suspect the MW2 map packs really got a lot more people than normal to buying the MS points and using the leftover points to buy an Arcade game, especially when the deals were going on. MS really does have a well oiled machine going with XBL and now that more people are buying into it (no pun intended) they are really looking at long term financial success with it. So no I don't think it is a fluke and really think the best is still to come.

I noticed this ended with "how long will it last?" In my opinion that's generally a statement made by people who aren't fans of the 360. XBLA success isn't a fluke and it will keep being successful as long as they keep adding great games.
