Studio Wildcard announced at the Game Developers Conference today in a panel that the dinosaur survival game Ark: Survival Evolved is getting a port on the Nintendo Switch. It will release this fall.

Just last week it was announced the game would be getting a release on iOS and Android.

Wonder how this is going to run in docked/mobile mode.

Doesn't the game still have optimization and performance problems? How are they going to fit it for the Switch if they are still working on the main PC version and the other consoles?

Wow, I honestly thought it wouldn't simply because on my rather stout PC that I built for 4k and the HTC Vive it still only ran OK, not great... before the upgrades it was really stuttering. I suppose that was while it was still technically in Beta, but porting this to the Switch will be one heck of a challenge. Hopefully they succeed!

Ark running in portable, looks smooth, but will have to see in more active areas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B6kJm5pOx8

There's footage of the Switch version online already. It's got exactly the same template as the ps4 xb1 versions and it's running close to 30fps in most instances according to the developer. I'm actually excited! This might just be rhw game that proves anything can be ported over to switch.

Well, it's settled: If the Switch can run this unoptimized beast, it's not too underpowered for the next COD.

Eek. The game is terrible, really wouldn't recommend this even if you are starved for third party games, buy some indies instead or save the money.

The game itself is no fun or not worth a playthrough...or it's terrible because of performance issues that could potentially be resolved? I know people that have been playing it for quite a while and enjoy it, but I have not played it myself.

Both, the game is no fun in solo, quite frustrating actually on PVP servers stringing you along on a grind for hours only to be killed by a chance encounter with a mob of enemies and returning to that spot your gear is glitched out , even when you clan up, grind up big and fully kit out while doing the whole discord thing the game gets stale as much as the social aspect keeps it alive for a short while. The game is built quiet obviously with free to play in mind yet they tagged on a price at some point because of the audience they got so quickly, pure milking. On creation PvE servers with just creation things get a little more bland gameplay wise but again it falls short of what it's trying to be. If the PvP servers were balanced, and the devs put more time into making that work as well as optimizing the game and adding polish in general it could be a half decent game, even great if you become part of a small well run group on discord, none of the spam clans but they are either ill equipped for this or half gotten lazy somewhere after making all the money and are just in it now to milk as much cash as possible with no regard to the games quality or player enjoyment. Same old, early access that took off big, story. I'd recommend to anyone not to give these developers funding to create more lazy work and free load off of young gamers parents money. If you don't game much, you may find some enjoyment here for a time but if you play a variety of games regularly it'll be apparent fairly quickly how bad, grind heavy, poorly optimized, lazy and just not fun, this game is.
Also, spawn jails are a thing. So if you want to end up spending an hour punching a wall to get back into the game after death, this is the game for you.

iOS and Android will get a version as well, why not the switch?

Nuvendil (on 21 March 2018)

Well, that was unexpected.

Kwaidd (on 22 March 2018)

I watched a post from SuperMetalDave64 and SpawnWave. Apprarently the dev porting the game over feels that the hardware isn't so much an issue, as is the cart cost and having to fit it on a 16g cart. Still, quite unexpected, indeed.

Wait, people actually like these sort of comments? I find that rather sad. And there's a whole section of the site who wonder why the Switch doesn't get full 3rd party support.

It's a pretty funny comment. Don't have to take it seriously

Well maybe my sense of humour is broken then because it reads more as bitchy than funny to me.
