The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

PS4 Vs. PS3 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 9,068 – PS3

Gap change over last 12 months: 58,744 – PS3

Total Lead: 6,468 – PS4

PlayStation 4 Total Sales 5,447,356

PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 5,440,888

October 2017 is the 45th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale in Japan. The gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 3 by 9,068 units in the last month and in favor of the PlayStation 3 by 58,744 units in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by just 6,468 units.

The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. The PlayStation 4 has sold 5.45 million units, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 5.44 million units.

This comparison is the most interesting of all, I’m just hoping that the PS4 comes out on top of the PS3 when all is said and done.

I wonder how this is happening?? The PS4 costs a lot less than the PS3, and has a lot of Japanese developer support.....I simply don't get it.

As far to my knowledge the ps3 sold about 8 million units in japan, not confirmed though
