Sega has released the opening animation for Sonic Mania. It is animated and directed by Tyson Hesse, featuring custom music by Hyper Potions.

Sonic Mania will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC on August 15.

If you look carefully at the section where Tails throws Sonic through a "portal" ring, you can see several other portal rings, 2 of which show Hydrocity Zone and Lava Reef Zone from Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles respectively. They haven't been officially announced yet, but it's pretty safe to assume they'll be remixed in Mania.

This clip made me so happy, they have really captured the unique Sonic spirit that makes the old games some of the best ever made.
