PS4 Has 70% to 90% Market Share in Continental Europe

PS4 Has 70% to 90% Market Share in Continental Europe - News

The PlayStation 4 reportedly has between 70 percent and 90 percent market share in continental Europe according to Sony's Jim Ryan.

"We have a very significant market leadership," Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe President Jim Ryan told VG247. "Well, we have market leadership in every country in Europe, and have very significant market leadership in continental Europe. Extremely significant. I don’t think market-share’s any less than 70%, and frequently greater than 90% in continental Europe."

Ryan added that with current sales of the PlayStation 4 there is no need for a price cut, "Particularly in Europe… our momentum is still very considerable. We’re happy with the price and we’re happy with the value proposition. Consumers, equally and more importantly, appear to be happy with the price and the value proposition. We’ll leave it where it is for now."

Well, nothing new here. We Europeans prefer good quality products. The excellent Italian food, the great German cars, the nice Italian and French clothes and the amazing Japanese consoles.

You guys that are praising this (and I get it, most of you are fans of Sony) are really not thinking what this means. Back in the 80's, NES had this kind of strangle hold on the industry and it was bad for gamers. No one should enjoy seeing 70-90% marketshare for one company because it means there's no motivation for said company to innovate or be competitive.

No need to worries, nothing will change for having domination in that area. Now if this domination was in USA, I would have agreed with you.

I see it closer to the 70%, though good job to sony.

What he is saying is- It is no less than 70% in any countries. He even says some countries its over 90%. He was not referring to the aggregate. Which might be closer to 80%.

Has it always been this way since the PS brand came to EU? Seems like a normal day to me.

They are absolutly dominating here in Romania, even more so then last generations. The PS4 is by far the most expensive system here, and same goes for games. NBever the less, you barely see any Xones and none WiiU to be found in any major brick and mortar retailers.

Good job Sony :-)

Well what you expect? XBO is not even officially supported in Romania.

Congrats Sony. Seems people here in the US are about the only ones buying the Xbox One in decent numbers.

The XB1 has 3.2 million sales in EU. Not full blown epic, but you can't say that's not decent.

Doesn't this mean UK as well. If Sony has 70% in UK... thats incredible.

While I would love that, they have no reason to do so. As long as they are market leaders with this price it would be stupid of them to cut it.
