Cancelled Stranglehold Sequel, "Gun Runner", Footage Uncovered - News
by Jake Weston , posted on 24 October 2012 / 2,666 ViewsReleasing back in 2007, film director John Woo's Stranglehold was a fun action game, with the most interesting thing about it being that it was a sequel to Woo's 1992 film Hard Boiled, and also featured Chow Yun-fat reprising the starring role.
Apparently, we almost got a sequel. Titled Gun Runner, the game was in development until Midway was closed down in 2009. However, today a video showed up showcasing test footage of the game.
While the footage doesn't show much in the way of new features over the previous game, there is a new character who looks amazingly like Vin Diesel. Considering Diesel had previously partnered with Midway on the 2008 game Wheelman, it's not surprising that Midway would have continued using his likeness for other projects.
I've often referred to Stranglehold as the Max Payne game that never was. While it was certainly rough around the edges, I always thought that a sequel that worked out the kinks could have been great. I guess this is the closest we'll ever get. Check out the footage of the cancelled Gun Runner below.
