Cliff Bleszinski Wants to "Fix Resident Evil" - News
by Jake Weston , posted on 29 October 2012 / 2,703 ViewsCliff Bleszinski, the former design director for the Gears of War franchise, wants to help Capcom "fix" Resident Evil.
In a post on his Twitter account, Bleszinski said "Hey, Capcom. Call me. We can fix Resident Evil. Together."
Sure, it's quite a presumptuous thing to say (though not unexpected from Cliff Bleszinski, known for his outgoing persona). So, why is a random tweet from a renowned game developer newsworthy? Because Cliff Bleszinksi left Epic Games earlier this month, and has reportedly been visiting the offices of many game companies, hinting at where his future may take him. Gears of War (and virtually every modern action game) would not exist without Resident Evil 4, so it would be incredibly interesting to see the design director of the series that took most of its inspiration from Resident Evil 4 work on the franchise could produce endlessly fascinating results.
Despite its mixed reception since its release, I happened to like Resident Evil 6 quite a bit, though I recognize there is room for improvement. How would Cliff Bleszinski handle the franchise? Would he infuse it with more of the action that he's known for, or would he attempt to bring it back to its survival-horror roots? Either way, maybe Capcom should take up his offer.
