PS4 Won't Block Used Games or Require Internet Connection - News

Two of the core negative rumours surrounding both Sony's and Microsoft's next-generation consoles was the idea that firstly their consoles wouldn't be able to play used games, and secondly that they would require an internet connection and for users to be 'always-online'.

Eurogamer are reporting good news on both these fronts, at least as far as prospective PlayStation 4 owners are concerned. In an interview with Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida after the PlayStation 4 live streaming, Eurogamer confronted both of these issues.

Yoshida on Used Games:

"That's the general expectation by consumers... they purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that's my expectation," he said. Then, just to clarify matters further: "So, used games can play on PS4."

On Internet Connections:

"Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don't want to connect to anyone else, you can do that."

Good news for PlayStation fans then. Over to you, Microsoft.
