Nintendo Reveals 2DS & Wii U Price Drop - News

Today, rather out of the blue, Nintendo announced a new model of their latest handheld, the 2DS. As you could have expected from the name, the Nintendo 2DS is a 3DS without the 3D, but surprisingly, it also features a slate design. That means that, unlike the previous iterations of the DS and 3DS, it will not be able to be folded down and closed. The 2DS will retail at $129, or £109.99, and will be the "budget version of the 3DS". It will launch on October 12th, the same day as Pokemon X and Y.

Also today, Nintendo confirmed the rumoured Wind Waker HD Wind Waker bundle, and also outed a Wii U price cut. This will drop the Deluxe bundle to $299, down from the current $349, and will take place on the 20th September. The Wind Waker HD Bundle will also launch on this date, a full 2 weeks before the retail version of the game will release.

Now, I'm not sold on the 2DS, but I can see its appeal. Launching on the same day as Pokemon is a master stroke as well, and should appeal to the younger demographic. As for the Wii U pricecut, I feel as though it's a must with the PS4 being priced at $399. What effect these two latest announcements will do to alter Nintendo's fortunes is yet to be seen.
