Valve Reveal Steam Controller - News
by Craig S , posted on 27 September 2013 / 8,549 ViewsFollowing on from the announcement of Steam Machines, now Valve have given us a rather detailed look at their Steam controller over on their website.
Billed as a 'new way to play your entire Steam library from the sofa' and having a 'vastly superior control scheme' to console controllers, the Steam controller looks interesting to say the least.
Instead of analog sticks, there are high resolution 'track pads' for your thumbs. The controller is also built around haptic feedback - something that the Xbox One's controller has been getting rave write ups regarding - which provides feedback through said pads.
Like the PlayStation 4's controller there's also touchscreen on the controller itself. The one in the Steam controller is also high resolution and clickable. As for buttons, there are 16 in total, positioned based on their frequency of use.
Oh, and the controller is described as being 'hackable', allowing users to participate in all aspects of the experience, from industrial design to electrical engineering.
