Activision announced Extinction mode for Call of Duty: Ghosts, one day after the mode was initially leaked out to the internet and then later teased by Activision.
Extinction mode is a 1-4 player cooperative gameplay experience that is quoted as offering a "unique blend" of survival action, base defense, scavenging, and class-leveling.
Extinction mode will be part of the single player campaign, head-to-head multiplayer and Squads mode.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released on November 5th for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC and will be a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
