Amazon Ready to Begin Delivering by Air Drone - News
by Craig S , posted on 02 December 2013 / 3,996 ViewsNot strictly video game-related news, unless of course you purchase your games from Amazon, but it's undoubtedly one of the coolest news stories of the year. The retailer Amazon has announced that it's ready to begin delivering its goods via air drone within just 30 minutes of the customer having placed an order.
The YouTube video below shows the Amazon Prime Air service in action:
Speaking with CBS, Amazon’s Chief Executive Jeff Bezos stated that the service is ready to go, and that they're just waiting on approval of air drones for civilian use:
"I know this looks like science fiction, but it's not... We can do half-hour delivery... and we can carry objects, we think, up to five pounds (2.3kg), which covers 86% of the items that we deliver."
The BBC is reporting that civilian air space is expected to be opened up to all kinds of drones in the US by 2015 and in Europe by 2016, which means Amazon's Prime Air vehicles will soon be as normal a sight as seeing mail trucks on the road today.
