Sony has confirmed that its own first party studio Sucker Punch has been hit with layoffs. However, the exact number of employees is not yet known. Sony did not mention whether the layoffs were due to lower than expected sales of inFAMOUS: Second Son or the regular trimming of employees after a game is released.

"SCEA can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions," said Sony in a statement to IGN. Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavors."

Sucker Punch most recently developed the PlayStation 4 exclusive inFAMOUS: Second Son. The game has sold 1.46 million units worldwide.

Sucker Punch is best known for the development of the Infamous and Sly Cooper franchises. The studio was founded in 1997 and worked closely with Sony, until Sony purchased them in 2011.
