The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
PS4 Vs. PS3 Global:
Gap change in latest month: 316,409 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: n/a
Total Lead: 3,477,479 – PS4
PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 5,109,615
PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 1,632,136
January 2014 is the third month the PlayStation 4 is on sale. The gap increased this week in favor of the PlayStation 4 over its predecessor, the PlayStation 3. The gap by an additional 3,16,409 units, to bring the total gap to 3,477,479.
In its first three months on sale the PlayStation 4 has sold a total 5.11 million units, while the PlayStation 3 sold just 1.63 million units in its first three months on sale.
Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013.
