DayZ alpha edition hit Steam earlier this week and has already seen strong sales. The game managed to sell 172,500 units in its first 24 hours, according to game developer Bohemia’s CEO Mark Spanel on his blog.

Spanel also said that 142,403 people have played the game online. The game also sold 88,000 units in the first 12 hours.

DayZ was originally a mod for the shooter Arma 2. It was a zombie apocalypse survival game that relied on players working together in order to survive.

I hear it works fairly well for a game in alpha stage so I might pick it up soon too. It will probably receive a proper release in a few months seeing how fast they update and how long they work on the game.

No, that was WarZ, which was a rip-off of DayZ. They just quickly released their game, so that they would have it before the stand-alone version of DayZ.
"Infestation: Survivor Stories (formerly The War Z) is an open world zombie survival horror video game developed by Hammerpoint Interactive."
