Microsoft: Xbox One has the Best Launch Line-Up 'in Console History' - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 21 August 2013 / 9,601 Views

Microsoft's Corporate VP Phil Harrison has made a bold statement claiming that the Xbox One has the best launch line-up "in the history of consoles." The Xbox One is launching with 23 games including Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Sone of Rome, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, as well highly rated third party titles, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4.

Microsoft announced at their Gamescom press conference earlier this week that every Xbox One pre-order in Europe will come bundled with a copy of FIFA 14 for free.

"... ultimately it's the games that make Xbox One stand out, and we have the best line-up of games - we think - in the history of consoles," Harrison told Computer and Video Games. "We clearly have strong exclusive games, and we have partnered with EA to bring FIFA to Europe in a very meaningful way. Football in Europe is the sport, and in some countries it's the religion. I think FIFA Ultimate Team is going to be huge."

"The reason we do our own studio investments and investments with third-party publishers is very simple - we want to make sure the best games are on Xbox," Harrison added. "We want to make sure the best developers bring their creativity to our platform."

Here is the launch line-up:

  • Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag (Ubisoft, Ubisoft)
  • Battlefield 4 (DICE, Electronic Arts)
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts (Infinity Ward, Activision)
  • Crimson Dragon (Grounding/Land Ho!, Microsoft Studios)
  • Dead Rising 3 (Capcom Vancouver, Microsoft)
  • FIFA 14 (EA Sports, Electronic Arts)
  • Fighter Within (AMA Ltd., Ubisoft)
  • Forza Motorsport 5 (Turn 10 Studios, Microsoft Studios)
  • Just Dance 2014 (Ubisoft Paris, Ubisoft)
  • Killer Instinct (Double Helix, Microsoft Studios)
  • LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (TT Games, Warner Bros. Interactive)
  • Lococycle (Twisted Pixel, Microsoft Studios)
  • Madden NFL 25 (EA Sports, Electronic Arts)
  • NBA 2K14 (Visual Concepts, 2K Sports)
  • NBA LIVE 14 (EA Sports, Electronic Arts)
  • Need for Speed: Rivals (Ghost Games, Electronic Arts)
  • Peggle 2 (Popcap, Electronic Arts)
  • Powerstar Golf (Zoe Mode, Microsoft Studios)
  • Ryse: Son of Rome (Crytek, Microsoft Studios)
  • Skylanders: Swap Force (Vicarious Visions, Activision)
  • Watch Dogs (Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft)
  • Zoo Tycoon (Frontier Developments Ltd., Microsoft Studios)
  • Zumba Fitness: World Party (Zoë Mode, Majesco)

I'd be surprised if he said the opposite.

aye what else could he do? come out and show his receipt for his ps4 pre order and start getting hyped about it like everyone else is?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and unsurprisingly the opinion of the VP of Microsoft is he thinks the X1 has a better line up for launch! What else is he going to say!

So where is Halo?

  • +7
Ganoncrotch Xenobot (on 21 August 2013)

clearly coming to the xbox360 since they've pledged they're going to continue supporting that for the next few years, really can't wait to play Halo 5 on it.

Libara Xenobot (on 22 August 2013)

Fairly certain they said that of the new trilogy (4,5,6) only 4 would be on the current gen xbox.

  • +2
Ganoncrotch Xenobot (on 22 August 2013)

then suggesting they're supporting the 360 for the next few years is complete BS unless the main series associated with the brand is on the console. By the same logic Sony still supports the ps2 because fifa14 is out on it...

Resident_Hazard (on 23 August 2013)

Microsoft must not have been paying attention as their launch is the most average one in history--and largely identical to the X360, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Wii, etc.

Well no other consoles have launched with this many popular IPs at once. So I agree.

The PS4 launch is comparable. But I think games like Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse, and Killer Instinct give the X1 an edge.

Ryse is a popular IP????
The former kinect now core standard controller game from "good graphics, bad gameplay-crytec"?

umm where is Super Mario 64... oh what you guys dont have it, then its not the best launch line up ever

  • +2

or super mario world which was a pack in game with each super nintendo? Imagine getting a SNES with Fifa 95 you'd have chucked it right in the bin.

The N64 launch was amazing. How many games? 2? I'm surprised that console had such modest sales.

I will correct Microsoft's Corporate VP Phil Harrison:
«Xbox One has the Best Launch Line-Up 'in XBOX Consoles History'»
or
«Xbox One has the most Average Launch Line-Up 'in Console History'»

Really huh, best lineup ever? You can add probably 13 of those titles to the PS4 launch lineup.

Its the exclusives where the X1 has an edge.

  • 0
nnodley (on 21 August 2013)

I don't agree, but that's because the only thing I'm interested in in that list is ryse. It's always and will always be a matter of opinion, but opinions don't matter it seems for some fans in the conzole warz. I don't think either of the consoles launch lineups are stellar or the best ever.

Sony has more titles, but MS has the best exclusive titles. I go for quality over quantity.

Wasn't Reggie saying something simmilar about the Wii U or something?
With so many multiplatform tittles and not Halo, this is hardly the best line up at all.

nnodley (on 21 August 2013)

Oh look at the people acting like it's not a matter of opinion. Good lord people get over it. Stop with the stupid mindless bashing because you despise a company for god knows what.

but theres no Super Mario 64, SM64 for fucks sake. YOU NEED SUPER MARIO 64!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of the games will be on the Sony platform.. hardly anything from both thats exclusive right now... I want them 3rd party games to be the best graphically and performance wise, so console wise the PS4 is the best place to play them :)

  • 0
Mr Puggsly Madword (on 22 August 2013)

While many of these games will be on the PS4, the X1 launch exclusives are getting more buzz than PS4 exclusives.

Nem (on 21 August 2013)

i can concede him that. But will it be the best line-up for the following years? Or will Microsoft retreat to 3 yearly franchises again for the rest of the generation. Sadly, just having a good launch line-up is not convincing enough given their past history.

  • -1
greenmedic88 (on 21 August 2013)

Can't fault Harrison for doing his job in hyping the XB1 launch, but can't say I agree at all either. The only exclusive that is virtually guaranteed to deliver is Forza 5. As far as numbers go, the PS4 is launching with 33 titles; 10 more than the XB1. Unfortunately, for both consoles, those titles will be the only games you'll be playing on your new console given that BC is a thing of the past.

  • -1
Kaizar greenmedic88 (on 21 August 2013)

BC will always be on Nintendo a least.

  • +2

I'm not sure about Forza tho, one of the best things turn 10 did for driving sims was their amazing AI as well as their detail when it came to the tire textures for each road surface. But now they've gone and really messed around with the AI to tie it in with the cloud full of Drivatars

Add to these:

Im agree X1 had bit more powerful launch to PS4 but i hate people actlike this is the only games X1 and PS4 gonna offer.

Multimedialover (on 21 August 2013)

Yes by far xbox one has the best and most diverse launch lineup in history. By far. And crytek absolutely destroyed naysayers at gamescom. Ryse combat is very deep and hard. I really thought sony would have a good gamescom. But where are these games. The promise isnt good enough. Microsft have varity in exclusives already. Sony are losing in visuals, variety and exclusives right now. As well as many third parties offering exclusive content due to cloud servers for free.

Microsoft have done the best launch for games in history.

I wish I could save this comment for future reference. I wasn't even gonna check the videos they released for Ryse at gamescon, but you've changed my mind

AnthonyW86 (on 21 August 2013)

I actually agree with him, or atleast it has the best launch line-up of this gen. However you don't buy a console for just the games that are there on day one, you buy it for years to come.

Besides a bigger launch line-up doesn't really matter past a certain point, since we only have limited time and money to play games. By the time you could buy and finish most launch games more will already have been released.

No it doesn't. The Wii U did. It just happened that almost every game on that launch line up was already on other systems, so it really didn't matter.
