It didn't take long for Popcap's Plants vs. Zombies 2 to make a splash on the iOS. Publisher Electronic Arts announced at their Gamescom press conference today that the free-to-play game has already been downloaded more than 16 million times.

The milestone was achieved in just four day which makes it "the most successful mobile game launch" in Electronic Arts history. Day one download nearly doubled the previous record. It has topped the App Store chart in 137 countries worldwide.

EA also announced that players have already logged more than 25 million hours playing the game. That would put the average time per person at more than an hour and a half.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 is currently only available for the iOS, but the game will launch later this year on other platforms.

Yeah, I was very saddened by not being able to download this yet on Android... I don't get why they would choose iOS first if it were free-to-play. Android is where the focus is on free-to-play games, where as iOS most people will charge $0.99-4.99 for what would have been a free app.
