Unity Engine Reaches 2m Users Worldwide - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 09 July 2013 / 4,807 ViewsUnity Technologies has announced that the Unity engine has doubled in size in just 15, to two million user. It took seven years for the engine to reach one million users. There are now more than 400,000 monthly active users.
"We are proud of this new milestone that we have reached for what it means to the vision to democratise the game industry," said Unity CEO and Co-founder David Helgason. "In 2005 we started out with a few hundred users and the goal of making game development accessible to everyone across an increasing array of platforms and devices."
"We continue to dream big and innovate for our developers. We can’t wait to shed more light on our new initiatives and plans at this year’s Unite conference in Vancouver."
The Unity engine will play a key role in the next generation of consoles as a development of tools will support the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U. It also supports Windows 8, Windows Store, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Mobile.
To celebrate the milestone, Unity is giving away a development suite to a lucky member of the community. The suite includes Unity Pro and all the commercially available Pro add-ons for the iOS, Android and BlackBerry 10.
