There were Tweets yesterday that the Rock Band and Dance Central developer, Harmonix, was hit with layoffs. While the exact number of employees let go were not provided, Harmoix did tell Polygon that only "small number" were laid off.

"We can confirm that a small number of Harmonix employees were let go today," read a statement from a Harmonix spokesperson. "This decision was made due to shifting staffing priorities for Harmonix's multiple future projects."

It was also Tweeted by superannuation that BioShock 2 lead designer Zak McClendon has updated his LinkedIn profile. The profile now says that he is the design director at Harmonix.

For people wondering about the Bioshock dude: a few months ago harmonix had a bunch of job openings for designers with open world/combat system experience. I am betting that their next game is going to deviate from their prior music centric games, and this hire fits in to that.

I love harmonix, and I do admit that Bioshock is a great series, but I'm really not seeing the connection.

I think Harmonix is just restructuring their priorities. They're not going to make anymore money off of music games.
