Nintendo Shipped 3M Wii U's During the Holiday - News/ 4,852 Views
Nintendo has released its quarterly report for its third quarter which ended December 31, 2012. For the first nine months of its fiscal year Nintendo posted revenue of 543 billion yen, which is down 2.4 percent when compared to a year ago. After posting a loss a year ago, the company has profited 14.5 billion yen for the first nine months.
Nintendo also released sales of its video games. The company sold 3.06 million Wii U's, as well as 11.69 million Wii U games. To compare Nintendo shipped 3.53 million Wii's during its launch and 45.08 million Wii games. Also New Super Mario Bros. U sold 2.01 million units and Nintendo Land sold 2.33 million units.
The 3DS has now sold 12.71 million units during the nine month period which started April 1, 2012, as well as 39.56 million 3DS games. New Super Mario Bros. 2 has sold 5.96 million units and Animal Crossing: New Leaf has sold 2.73 million units.
Nintendo has also cut its fiscal year forecast for its consoles which ends March 31, 2013. Nintendo now expects to ship four million Wii U's, down from 5.5 million. Nintendo has also cut its 3DS forecast to 15 million units shipped, from 17.5 million units. Also 2.3 million DS's will be shipped, instead of 2.5 million.
Despite the drop in the number if consoles shipped Nintendo has raised its profit forecast. Nintendo expects profits of 14 billion yen, up from six billion yen. Revenue was dropped to 670 billion yen, from 810 billion yen.
