Sony Fined £250,000 for PSN Hack
by William D'Angelo, posted on 24 January 2013 / 4,189 ViewsSony has been fined £250,000 by the UK Information Commissioner's Office for the PlayStation Network hack in 2011. The office ruled that Sony should have been able to prevent the hack and that Sony should not have left such sensitive information so vulnerable.
"If you are responsible for so many payment card details and log-in details then keeping that personal data secure has to be your priority," said Information Commissioner's Office director of data protection David Smith.
"In this case that just didn't happen, and when the database was targeted - albeit in a determined criminal attack - the security measures in place were simply not good enough. There's no disguising that this is a business that should have known better."

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't two years a little long to be waiting to fine a company for something like this, or does it just take that long to investigate? Anywho, this should give Sony a lesson, if the consumer backlash wasn't enough.
2 years is fast in the legal world (actually about a year and 3 quarters mind ;))

Well done to the clowns that voted that cold, it was just information. Some people have serious problems. Given the nature of this news, I think it's fairly obvious the sad act losers that have and it says more about you than anything, get fucking grip.

Sony has lost too much money already to the point that they can't afford to pay the fine.
