Another Studio Closes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dev GSC Shuts Down - News

The Ukrainian developer GSC Game World is closing its doors, reports a Ukrainian new site (In Russian). The studio is behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. The owner of the studio, Sergei Grigorovich, has decided to to shut down the studio, however is promising to pay employees wages through February 2012.
Studio director Dmitri Bourkovski confirmed the report in a tweet, which translates to, "Not PR. GSC closed." The closure means that the studios next game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (PC) has been cancelled. The studio was formed in 1995, and developed PC titles such as Cossacks: European Wars, American Conquest, and Alexander, before working S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.
While new studios have been opening up in Canada, several other studios around the world have been forced to layoff the majority of its staff or have closed its doors. Day 1 Studios just this week had to layoff the majority of its staff. While not a studio the magazine and website GamePro has also announced it will be shut down. The German based studio, Gameforge, has laid off 100 of its employees. Silicon Knight also laid off the majority of its staff, with only 25 staff remaining. EVE Online developer CCP has cut its staff by 20 percent. The Australian games industry is on thin ice as seven studios have closed in the last three years.

HEHEHE there you have it. Prime example how pc gaming is dying and getting stomped by piracy. I remember how still today pc elitists try to show stalker series as the example of huge success on pc. HAHAHA I guess it wasn't such a success after all...

very sad news was looking forward to S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 they made a great series that i think was highly underrated always sad to see a dev close especially when they produce such great products
