Batman: Arkham City Batsuit Breakdown - News
by Jake Weston , posted on 02 August 2011 / 11,601 ViewsBatman: Arkham City hits this October, and it looks like gamers are going to have a plethora of pre-order downloadable costumes available when the game drops. Most of these costumes are only available from pre-ordering on UK sites, but we're sure they'll be available in some form of US release.
Of course, if you're not quite the Batman enthusiast, you may not know what the big deal about all these costumes are. Here's the breakdown of all the costumes that you'll get to look forward to in Arkham City, and why you should care.
1970's Batman

This was Batman's standard attire during his comics of the 1970's, and is still sometimes the look artists give him today for his modern comics. Since Batman's modern depictions usually consist of gray and black, it'll be nice to have some color on old Batsy if you choose so.
Batman: The Animated Series

The definitive Batman for many of those who grew up during the 90's, this Batman comes from Warner Bros.' animated series created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. This was the first TV incarnation of Batman that really showed off the noir and gothic inspired roots of the character, and was the first incarnation of Batman to be voiced by Kevin Conroy, who continues voicing the character in Arkham City and considered by many THE voice of Batman.
Batman Beyond

This Batman was first seen in Batman Beyond, an animated show that followed up on Batman: The Animated Series, featuring a dystopian future where Bruce Wayne is now too old to be the Batman. In the show, he takes up a young ward, Terry McGinnis, to take up the mantle of Batman. Of course, we'll assume its still Bruce Wayne under the cowl in Arkham City.
Earth One Batman

Batman: Arkham City marks the first appearance of Earth One Batman, set to make his comic debut when DC Comics reboots the series later this year. Not much is changed from the classic look here, but outfit is markedly more realistic than the other outfits available. If they ever reboot the Batman film series again, I hope they go more for this look, as I've never been much of a fan of the "armored" design of Batman featured in almost all of the films.
The Dark Knight Returns

This Dark Knight comes from Frank Miller's acclaimed graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns, featuring an aging Bruce Wayne as he dons the cape and cowl one last time when a future Gotham City is in danger. Considered one of the best Batman books, Dark Knight Returns also helped reintroduce audiences to Batman's dark style, as many in the 80's still associated the character with Adam West's "campy" interpretation of Batman.
So, there you have it. If you want to find out how to obtain each outfit, check out Arkham City's UK website. Until then, I'm sure some retailers like GameStop and Amazon will offer a costume or two as a pre-order incentive.

dislike the armored look? batman is... a man, he doesn't dodge bullets... a thin leather suit as sole protection would be ridiculous in today's films...
Batman is just barely on the human side of superhuman. It would fit well with his concept for him to defeat guns with a combination of stealth, terror, and martial prowess rather than armour.
Was going to say something similar, to me having him gliding around in kevlar makes much more sense. Plus adds to the atmosphere in the films
Um Batman avoids getting shot at in the first place first, then if he does he tries to evade and he has armor just in case that doesn't work either, but armor is really his last line, stealth is first, agility is his second
I just think the armor impedes his mobility too much (which is very clear in all of the movies). I agree that the Nolan films are more practical than the first four Batman movies, but I just think with modern special effects, they can make a movie with a batsuit that is both practical and close to the comics, i.e. the Earth-One suit. The Spider-Man movies are a good example of a costume translating well to film.
Glad they included the batman beyond suit, that was a really good show, I hope batman beyond revives in some shape or form
At one point in time you just had to beat different aspects of games to get different costumes or features. Now it's extras.
OMG Batman beyond costume!!!tooo aweesoomee1!!
why no Adam West Batman?? :-(
They could've added the bubbles too along the way!
If only they had skins for different batmobiles! I would use Adam West's all the time.
The Dark Knight Returns looks like he is going to get a heart attack. scary thought.
he actually faked a heart attack at the end of the dark knight returns graphic novel
batman's cool
The Dark Knight Returns Batman looks like his image is stretched :P I suppose that fits with the comic. I hope they announce a Nolan Batman skin.
It looks like a fat old batman with chestpress abuse
batman's cool
