The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.
This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in the US and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

May 2026 is the 12th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 5,393 units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 0.53 million units.
The 12th month for the Switch 2 is May 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is February 2018. The Switch 2 has sold 5.92 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 5.39 million units during the same timeframe.
The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 48.94 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 43.02 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

Many people didn't pay attention to this chart "the holiday periods don't lineup"
now that the Switch 2 has been selling for quite a while we can see it is barely more successful than the Switch 1, and yet we don't see the software lineup to keep the momentum going, it will sell less than switch 1 soon in the US
Switch2 will slow down once price increase takes effect+ another price increase added end of this year
I doubt that they'll make a second price increase this year unless hardware prices go even further and faster through the roof. Otherwise, Nintendo would have also raised the prices already instead of delaying them for several months.
It will 100% and even if its not this year it will be in 2027,and 2028
Switch2 will 100% reach 600$ pricepoint..it wont sell like the switch did.
If Hardware prices continue to rise, they certainly will raise the price again next year. It would need to have the AI industry crash to get the prices lowered again.
But with ALL hardware getting damn expensive (just look at the Steam Machine), Switch 2 would still be one of the the cheapest options for gaming, and next-gen consoles won't be able to compete with the price of the Switch 2 no matter how you slice it.
Nintendo's greatest strength right now is actually their relative value compared to the non existent competition, the Switch 2 is far superior to the ROG Ally or Steam Deck imo.
Imagine if Microsoft had the courage to release a $500 NVidia handheld next year using 2nm.... or maybe an Apple portable or a Qualcomm Chinese product was good
Nintendo is definitely sheltered by the lack of competition right now, I am only moderately happy with my Switch 2 (mainly happy about the 12GB of ram wow that runs at double speed, that will give it legs!) but Sony and Microsoft are not even in the race right now
why? the only expensive components are the storage and it has 1/4 the amount of the Xbox, and the ram, which also costs almost half as much (cheap mobile ram and only 12GB instead of 16GB)
I think Nintendo will be fine at $500 for at least the next year, they are more likely having troubles with the cost of cartridges than the very very cheap storage the Switch 2 has (famously low quality storage also)
