gamrTopic - Killzone 3 vs. Bulletstorm - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 25 February 2011 / 4,562 Views

This week saw the release of two very big shooters: Killzone 3 from Guerrilla Games exclusive to the Playstation 3 and Bulletstorm from Epic Games and People Can Fly on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

No, I'm not asking which you think is better, though I'm sure a fair bit of that will go on in the comments as well. What we want to know is which do you think will sell better? Killzone is an established, console-selling brand with a history of high review scores dating back to the original. Bulletstorm is a fresh new IP that has been garnering good reviews but doesn't have that established fan base. What it does have is a higher install base to sell to since it isn't exclusive.

So which do you think will bring home the most bacon over the next week? What about the next month?

But just to add this in, Kz3 is the best multiplayer shooter I have ever played on a console, nothing matches the sheer intensity/insanity of warzone, not even close.

Ya I dont see killzone 3 selling as well as bulletstorm, if preorders are anything to go by kz3 will be lucky to break a mil week one. Bulletstorm will easily do that, if only for the gears 3 beta alone.

Going to have to go Bulletstorm. Mostly because it is on multiple consoles and had a very aggressive marketing campaign. That and there are enough gearheads who want that Gears3 beta. KZ3 will sell better than KZ2 did though.

bulletstorm because of gears 3 beta.but killzone 3 is way way way way way way better than bulletstorm and than any other shooter. the #s will be pretty close. of course killzone 3 for ps3 will sell more than bulletstorm by a lot. but overall i think bulletstorm will do around 4 million altogether, same with kz3

Killzone has a history of high review scores metacritic begs to differ my friend the first Killzone got a 70 which is not considered particularly high according to metacritic. Now on the debate of which will sell more ummm i do not know i am no predictor of the future, but i know which one deserves to sell better Bulletstorm because unlike Killzone 3 it is an original IP and also it is not a PS3 exclusive so larger number of possible customerz.

Gears of War 3 at 31 weeks before launch has higher pre-order sales than Killzone 3. Both Gears sold about 6 million each, and I suspect Gears 3 will do the same (but at the end of the trilogy, my suspicion is that it well sell more). KZ3 will be lucky to hit 2 million. Heck, KZ2 barely sold more than Halo Wars (an RTS game).

The point of mentioning this is that shooters do not sell as well (except for CoD) on the PS3. There are wonderful games, but the fan base is not a shooter fan base. Because of this, Bulletstorm has a chance to sell more than KZ3 Xbox vs PS3 in the long term, as word of mouth travesl well on the Xbox. A game that gets good reviews (like boarderlands for example), will continue to sell well long term. When including all 3 platforms if will not even be close. KZ3 will always be compared to CoD (and remember, its not just competeing against Black Ops, it is also competeing against CoD4, World at War, and MW2), Battlefield, and will be competeing with Crysis as well. Bulletstorm is supposed to be over the top humor, with ridiculous ways to get kills. It is attempting to do something different and may well succeed. Also by being from Epic, it will have a blind following as well.

In any case Killzone 3 is the best FPS I have ever played! Also playing with the sharpshooter/playstation move is totally awesome (despite being tricky at first)!

The Bulletstorm demo did not appeal to me at all.

Killzone 3 deserves to outsell Call of Duty and Halo combined!

bullerstorm has gears 3 beta and many people will buy it for this reason however killzone might still sell better

Hard to say really. I think Bulletstorm is going to bomb on PS3, it was pretty silly to release it against KZ3. That tells me that Epic and PCF really weren't expecting much in the way of sales on PS3 so they really didn't care about the release window for PS3. They mainly wanted to avoid any big shooty releases for 360. Americas pre-orders for the respective games has KZ3 ahead, but for a new IP Bulletstorm on 360 has healthy numbers. This might mean KZ3 has a front loaded first week and it Bulletstorm impresses it could have very good legs. I think week 1 worldwide KZ3 should take it. LTD I think Bullet storm with it's multiplatness will do the job.

Funny little, and little-minded trolls.

meh, i was excited for Bulletstorm but the demo was just OKish.
Killzone 3 has destroyed Black OPs and Bad Company 2 for me, those 2 games will be collecting some serious dust. i was kind of bummed that the PS3 was getting the Black Ops dlc maps so late, but now i don't even want 'em anymore.
but since i'm totally off topic, Bulletstorm will probably sell more. it's a greasy Big Mac and KZ3 is juicy steak. kids always go for the cheap junkfood.

i have both games KZ3 is by far a much better game, Bulletstorm got very boaring to me quickly, I am actually going to trade it in tomorrow, but just because KZ3 is a much better game does not mean it will sale more unfortunately . I would not be surprised if KZ3 sold 5 plus million though, its just an unreal shooter, and on the PS move its a whole new level of play

I personally feel like Bulletstorm will take the win. I feel for Killzone like I feel for all the FPS's out there, they all have a 3 or a 5 on the end of them now. Over used games keep stable sales, why innovative games increase theirs by leaps and bounds. 2011 marks the over using of franchises for the PS3 and the introduction of innovative games, such as Skyrim. Another generation, another culture. :) We've come a long way haven't we?

Are we talking combined Bulletstorm sales or just 360? Combined Bulletstorm should sell better worldwide. If it's just the 360 version your looking at, it may outsell Killzone in Americas, but probably won't. Killzone will also far outsell bulletstorm outside Americas.

Also, I think Killzone is a better game. Just picked up my copy recently.

@APKenna

Your a ignorant fanboy. You see how we can through meaningless insults around too?

Bulletstorm's demo was a DEMO. If you've played or read any of the reviews, it easy to see that the combat aspect continues to evolve during gameplay. And I mean evolve to the fullest extent.

What the hell kind of article is this?

Runa216 (on 26 February 2011)

Why even have this thread? Bulletstorm is multiplatform and is likely getting a LOT more hype. Even though Killzone on PS3 will take the top spot, Bullestorm will easily beat it overall.

KZ3 will sell more as its popularity will grow, Bulletstorm got old really quickly while playing just the demo.

julez_a1, you are truly a "extreme 360 Fanboy"(and just a few select people deserve this title), and you are just here to create flamewars, please refrain from trolling.

enrageorange (on 25 February 2011)

julez_a1 is not a representation of a typical 360 owners. Please ignore his trolling. Anyway I think bulletstorm will sell more. Around 1.7x as much as killzone 3 on the two consoles.
@Justp94 so what your saying is sales equal quality. Damn I didn't know black ops is the best hd game to come out this gen.

  • 0
julez_a1 (on 25 February 2011)

dont worry mjk45, but you should know that if you want to play any call of duty game "properly",you have to play it on the 360.
so call of duty games are practically exclusive for the 360.

  • 0
mjk45 (on 25 February 2011)

@julez_a1, "halo and Gears of War are only on 360 and they sell more than any multi platform game" well Call of Duty and GTA4 say high ... Girls one you none.

  • 0
brendin24 (on 25 February 2011)

Killzone on PS3, but the 360 fanbase loves shooters, so overall Bulletstorm

  • 0
julez_a1 (on 25 February 2011)

killzone on one platafform and bulletstorm on three? thats your explanation why killzone is going to sell less?????

halo and gear of war are only on the 360 and they sell more than any multiplatform game...

sorry girls look for another excuse...

  • 0
Justp94 (on 25 February 2011)

It will be close, but Killzone 3 is a better game and should sell more. If not, it's because it's on only one console and if Bulletstorm only sells a slight amount more with 3 systems.. then we all know which is better.

bulletstorm in the long run since it is multiplat,. plus Fox news has been demonizing it

  • 0
pukem0n (on 25 February 2011)

Killzones on one platform. Bulletstorms on two. Did that really warrant a response?
