New Disgaea Coming to Japan; NIS to Produce Fewer Games Each Year - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 16 July 2010 / 2,566 Views

Souhei Niikawa, president of Nippon Ichi Software in Japan, as well as the producer of the original Disgaea, was a special guest at NIS America's spoiler party last night.  After they announced their new titles he took the mic to deliver this message to NIS fans everywhere:

"My name is Souhei Niikawa, and I am the producer of Nippon Ichi Software.  Thank you very much for coming to NIS America’s press event tonight.  From this year on, Nippon Ichi Software will limit the number of titles we release in a year.  We are doing this to improve the game quality, and also to increase the customer satisfaction.  The games that have been showcased here tonight were strictly selected and developed with this new policy.

The first title is Z.H.P.  This is our latest dungeon RPG that has been created by the same staff members as Disgaea 3.  The project began soon after the release of Disgaea 3 and for 2 years it has been under intense development to formulate the game system.  We’re proud to say that Z.H.P. was made to surpass the Disgaea series and, also it is a title with all of our know how’s and ideas we build upon combined in to.  To describe how confident we are about this title... Let's just say we’re as excited as the time when we first developed Disgaea.  This is a title that we would like to nurture into the level of Disgaea, so please help us.

The 2nd title is Cladun.  This is a hack & slash type action RPG.  This title also has some of the same staff members as Disgaea and it is highly addictive.  As our wish it would be great if you can help these 2 titles grow.

Oh and one last thing.  This year the latest Disgaea will be released in Japan and it will be for the PS3.  Plans to make Disagea evolve to a new level and also plans to surprise everybody are in progress.  By the time Tokyo Game Show comes around we will be able to release more information, so please look forward to it. Thank you very much."

Times have been tough on Nippon Ichi's bottom line since February, when they said they would focus more on North America and the PS3.  Hopefully focusing on fewer titles at a time pays off for them.  If Z.H.P. can really be played 40 million times, it should help them out quite a bit.

After the presentation, Niikawa also mentioned that they will definitely have a trailer for the new Disgaea ready by TGS, and he'll be presenting the game at TGS himself.  So in his words, we should "get ready for it."

Dear Nippon Ichi,

I get you loyalty to Sony. But you got to move to the portables. I mean the DS and PSP are both closer technology wise to what you usually put out and more importantly they are both cheaper and have larger fanbases. Not telling you to half ass your aspirations, but let's be real you probably would only be off by a few degrees with it. Like your franchises so far but common sense tells me you are heading for a fall at this point.

Sincerely
NoirSon.

P.S. I hope you don't get bought out by Square Enix in the end, although that is probably your best bet at survival.

Icyedge is right and so are the other people to a certain extent depending on what exactly they were implying. Taken from dictionary.com
1.
a person who engages in a study, sport, or other activity for pleasure rather than for financial benefit or professional reasons. Compare professional.
2.
an athlete who has never competed for payment or for a monetary prize.
3.
a person inexperienced or unskilled in a particular activity: Hunting lions is not for amateurs.
4.
a person who admires something; devotee; fan: an amateur of the cinema. .

In this context, being an RPG amateur, means liking all types of RPG a lot. If you play one RPG per year than you arent an RPG amateur. If your being selective and play only WRPG then you arent an RPG amateur. Your a WRPG amateur... Same thing goes for MMORPG. If your a RPG amateur, then it means you like all types of RPG, even the hardcore one. Amateur isnt a proper english word, thats probably why the misconception. For your personal knowledge amateur doesnt = casual, actually far from it... Im writing all this because of your lack of respect "you dont know your shit buddy".

ya your comment is a little off base, nippon ichi rpgs are for the hardcorest of hardcores for the most part, the amount of depth and strategy involved along with the insane amount of grinding to level 9999 requires a time investment that all but the most devoted will be willing to spend, I love disgaea though so I cant wait to see what the new changes are, and also how zhp is going to turn out, which a little correction the trailer for z.h.p. said it could be played 40 million times.

Does this mean that the new Disgaea game won't be Disgaea 1 with a new grinding system added in? Because if they think that adding another item world counts as evolution, I'm not going to buy it...
