Even if it does lower than 360, Microsoft could be happy because it's a WAYYY better perf than One.
It's the second best since they're in the console market.

It's still very poor compared to Sony / Nintendo but still a huge progress.

OG Xbox was pretty low too in Japan, but understandable given it was a new challenger and not Japan's cup of tea.
Xbox One was just beyond pathetic. It was a slow burn to get it to 114,000 in Japan.
I think the reason Series X/S has outsold both OG Xbox and Xbox One in Japan is because of: Minecraft's enduring popularity (it's free on Game Pass), Game Pass, and the choice between a cheaper smaller SKU and a bigger more standard SKU.

“With Xbox, our goal is to create the future of video gaming, and our work in Japan will play a key role in achieving that,”
Gates said.
“We’re extremely excited to be working with Japanese games artists on Xbox to pioneer new dimensions of creativity in video games.”

Also, Xbox Controller S was introduced in Japan in 2002 with the Japanese launch but ended up being the standard worldwide. The Duke was too big for most.

I'm curious to see how well Xbox can hold momentum in Japan. It looks like main reason why sales are up come from the first few years (when PS5 was having supply issues). At the moment, it looks like its holding well...though not by a massive margin. Happy to see them doing stronger than usual in the region nonetheless!
