If PS5 wants to catch up it'll need to sell at this same pace for another year (if it does it can cruise past), or sell for more than 2 years more.
PS5 will have its successor in 2028, 5 years from now, and will most likely sell for another year following. It will pass the Wii in lifetime sales, but will it pass the PS4 and GameBOY?
*edit: changed the year from 2027 to 2028. Thanks for the catch!
Indications are that Sony and MS were both planning 2028 to be the next generation. The PS5 has likely already passed the PS4 in launch aligned sales by the end of November. PS5 at this stage is definitely on track to sell more than the PS4 and Gameboy even if it is replaced in 2027.
Hard to say where PS5 is going to land. I suspect ultimately will be about the same as PS4 - and hard to say whether that's good or bad (no growth)
Just a little FYI, there is a spelling error in the third chart.
I expect a revisit of -12.5M in the gap chart. Otherwise PS5 has to beat Wii's strongest holiday season.
