This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Wii.
The Wii launched in November 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

December 2022 is the 70th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch has caught up with the Wii when you align the launches by 1.33 million units.
In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the Wii by 2.39 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the Wii by 0.09 million units. This is the first time the Switch has been ahead of the Wii since month 12.
The 70th month for the Nintendo Switch is December 2022 and for the Wii it is August 2012. The Switch has sold 39.65 million units, while the Wii sold 39.56 million units during the same timeframe. The Wii sold current Switch sales in month 72.
The Wii sold 41.70 million units in the US during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 2.05 million units to outsell the Wii.

Wii lifespan was 72 months. So the Wii was ahead for 69. Switch will be ahead for 3 months and then the generation ended.
I don't think you understand how sales work... If you were to run a race and you are in the lead until the last lap, then you collapse from exhaustion do you declare yourself the winner even though everyone else finished the race?
That's not what I took from his comment. I think he's saying that Wii was very impressive, but fizzled out at the end.
