Take-Two Working on 3 Unannounced Remasters

Take-Two Working on 3 Unannounced Remasters - News

Take-Two Interactive in the company's earnings report for the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year revealed it has three unannounced remasters in development.

The report lists three unannounced games under "new iterations of previously released titles." The three games are listed next to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Grand Theft Auto V, the standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online, and Kerbal Space Program.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference earlier this year said  remasters have always been a part of the strategy for the publisher and that they have no interest in doing simple ports.

"I’m not sure there’ll be a bigger part of the strategy," said Zelnick. "Remastering has always been a part of the strategy. We’ve done differently than the competition – we don’t just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on.

"So, we improve the technology, we upgrade the visuals, and we make performance enhancements. And that’s why I think our remastered titles typically do so well."

"We’ve done great with the Mafia series, for example, and Grand Theft Auto V is now heading into its third generation which is incredible," he added.

"It was a standard-bearer when it was launched, it continued to be the standard-bearer in the second generation, we’ll see how Grand Theft Auto does in the next generation. Obviously, I’m confident that Rockstar is going to deliver just a great experience, but you can’t do that if you’re just doing a simple port."

I'm guessing these remasters are the PS5 version of GTA V, the XSX|S version of GTA V, and the GTX 1080 version of GTA V.

It says ‘3 unannounced remasters’ - The next-gen remasters of GTA V are already announced (also listed next the unannounced games in the Take2 website according to the article) and what you’ve described would be ports rather than remasters.

If there’s a joke in there, it must have, as I don’t see what there was to go over my head.

Enlighten me then rather than be condescending.

Red Dead Redemption 2 for ps5/xsx seems like a sure bet. For the other 2 I don't know. Maybe the GTA Trilogy remake is real but I'm not convinced.

Red Dead Redemption seems like the most obvious choice to me.

Would be nice but the game is already gorgeous on XSX at 4k. It's only lacking 60fps. I could not believe this was a PS3 game. I think GTA4 is in much more need of a proper remaster.

That one is already announced so isn’t one of the 3 unannounced ones.
Also is more an enhanced port than a remaster.

About the only games that fit (ie having not already received remasters, are annualised franchises or so old they'd need remakes) are XCOM, Red Dead Redemption 1 and GTA IV, although I doubt the likelihood of those myself.

GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas :)

I doubt remasters would really work for them, they’d need to be remakes (note the original Mafia came out around the same time and it got a remake).

Don't take a company as saying "remaster" as not being a full remake. Activision called their crash remakes "remasters".

Huh, I’d never spotted that with Crash. Usually it works the other way - with companies saying ‘remaster’ and the games more being enhanced ports at best.
