Publisher Square Enix and developers Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have delayed Marvel’s Avengers for the Xbox Series X and S, and Playstation 5 from holiday 2020 to 2021.

"We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be. More details to come," said Crystal Dynamics head of studio Scot Amo.

"Until then, however, you’ll be able to continue playing the current-gen (PS4/Xbox One) Marvel’s Avengers game on next-gen platforms to take advantage of their powerful hardware, be it via inserting a physical disk or redownloading the game.

"Two of the most obvious benefits of this are improved frame rates and faster loading times. In addition, players who make the jump to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will still be able to play co-op with their friends on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively as well as carry their existing save-game forward to the next-generation of consoles!

"All the above will be available to players at no additional cost, including the next-generation upgrades for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S."

Marvel’s Avengers is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and Google Stadia.

Technically its Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) as the main developers with Eidos (Deus Ex) helping. Never really been interested in the Tomb Raider Reboot or really Tomb Raider in general so that was always an iffy thing for me since they were announced to be the developers, but I am a big fan of Deus Ex which makes me sad they were busy with this and not another Deus Ex even though im aware the last one didn't sell gangbusters. Speaking of Rock Steady though theres no way they could have made an Avengers game since WB owns them, but aside from that they do have their Suicide Squad game which im assuming will be similar with 4 player co op, while im a fan of their Arkham games, I've never liked Suicide Squad nor multiplayer focused games so I dont have any expectations for that either.

I'm still not sure the difference between the "native" PS5 and XSX version of a game and the "BC" version of the PS4 and XB1 version. "Two of the most obvious benefits of this are improved frame rates and faster loading times" does that only apply to the Native PS5/XSX version and not to the "BC" version of them when you put the PS4/XB1 game into the PS5/XSX?

The Series X and PS5 versions will have proper next-gen graphical improvements when they release next year. The BC versions you will be able to play this year will be with PS4 Pro settings on PS5, Xbox One X settings on Xbox Series X, and Xbox One S settings on Xbox Series X, with faster load times on all 3, thanks to SSD, and Microsoft's forced 16x anisotropic filtering on all BC games, with the option for auto HDR on Xbox BC as well. It's the same story for Cyberpunk 2077 as well, you can play the BC versions this year, with proper next-gen versions coming in 2021.
