Dirt 5 on PS5 to Also Support 120 FPS - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 05 November 2020 / 3,285 ViewsIt was previously announced the upcoming racing game, Dirt 5, from Publisher and developer Codemasters will support up to 120 frames per second on the Xbox Series X.
Dirt 5 development director Rob Karp speaking in the upcoming issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine revealed the PlayStation 5 version of the game will also support up to 120 frames per second.
"The power of the PS5 also means that we will have an option for 120fps, which is very exciting for the racers who know that every frame counts" said Karp.
Here is an overview the game:
DIRT 5’s Career mode focuses on the highly successful DIRT series—a global racing event across various disciplines featuring the world’s greatest off-road racers. The player starts their fledgling career going up against an established field. The line-up includes superstar and fan favorite, Alex ‘AJ’ Janiček and Bruno Durand, a veteran who quickly becomes the game’s antagonist. The rivalry between AJ and Bruno creates the opportunity for a new up-and-coming driver to make their mark and build their legacy in the sport.
DIRT 5 features a star-studded cast with the biggest names from gaming and motorsport culture. The iconic Troy Baker (AJ) and Nolan North (Bruno) voice the main characters. The Career is tied together with the help of James Pumphrey and Nolan Sykes from racing enthusiasts and YouTube sensations, Donut Media. The entire story comes to life via the ‘DIRT Podcast by Donut Media’ featuring special guests including current W Series World Champion, Jamie Chadwick and YouTube star, SLAPTrain.
Career Mode is divided into five chapters offering multiple paths allowing players to choose the events they wish to play. The higher the finish the more Stamps the player earns, which are needed to unlock the Main Event. The highly competitive final challenge is all that’s standing in the player’s way to proceed to the next chapter. Also sprinkled throughout Career Mode are one-off Throwdown challenges. Once unlocked, players face the ultimate one-on-one challenge against a fierce competitor from the world circuit.
“DIRT 5’s Career mode underpins the entire experience and delivers a deeply immersive playground with player choice very much at the heart of it,” said DIRT 5 development director at Codemasters, Robert Karp. “The addition of Troy, Nolan and Donut Media has created a living, breathing world and one where the player wants to belong and compete. Whether they can rise to the Main Event and Throwdown challenges remains to be seen.”
The world tour takes players across the globe from the US to China and beyond. With real-world global brands waiting to sign fresh talent there are plenty of in-game rewards on offer based on performance and reputation rank. DIRT 5’s Career Mode also allows for local “couch co-op” support for up to four players. This option is available for all multi-car challenges with additional drivers replacing Al-controlled vehicles. With the highest finishing position counting towards the player’s career, it’s a great way to boost Stamps and help players progress.
Dirt 5 will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam on October 9. The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 version release dates will be announced later.

Saying a game runs at a frame rate is like asking someone to meet me tomorrow morning.
You need more information than that, where is the meeting taking place? What graphics settings are the frame rates being done at?
Pong can be played at 8k 120hz granted display technology.
I know we're all excited about these new consoles but we know 0 things until we have the PS5 version the XSX version and the PC version so we can really see what the hardware does.
what you're saying makes perfect sense, but also it is reasonable for the consumer to assume that the developer will maintain a certain level of graphical fidelity even at the high frame rate, lest the internet sleuths descend upon them like vultures. what I'm saying is that the level of excitement generated by this news is not totally unwarranted given it's more than likely they would not offer 120 Hz unless they had confidence it can be done well.
These consoles better have display port, if 120FPS is going to be an option. I'm not going out and buying a new monitor when there's nothing wrong with what I have. Display Port should have been on PS4 anyway, just because.
Displayport on PS4? For what reason???? It was neverrr gonna push 1080p beyond 60hz. And 4k30hz for Netflix works on base PS4.
Even DVI was still going strong back then.
no it shouldn't, consoles are for tvs
DisplayPort and HDMI are very similar technically. HDMI is effectively a brand name: you have to pay to use the word "HDMI" and license the patent to make a connector that fits that shape. DisplayPort just a free equivalent, because if you're buying lots of computers why would you pay for the HDMI logo?
What monitor has display port and no HDMI?
Selective phrasing and careful word play in marketing is a very interesting beast. Companies tend to boast about things a lot and 9/10 times, in the background, the other guy goes "Yep, us too".
Anything can run at 120fps if you just lower the graphics enough xD
Im surprised that the Ps5 is also able to play theese Game with 120 fps on the other side Dirt 5 is a racer and normally theese Games dont push the systems to their Limit, we have to look for other Games were the Xbox Series X to run the Game in 120 fps and the Ps5 is not.
Expected the power is very near... this may be the first time I'll try 120fps to see how it does and probably not do it again.
Differnce between 30 and 60, is def. more noticeable than from between 60 and 120.
You basically only need 120 fps in something like coutnerstrike imo. For RPGs? who gives a f***
