Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World heads to EU w/ extra content - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 22 April 2009 / 4,696 Views

Today, Namco Bandai Games of Europe finally announced that Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was heading to Europe. To compensate for the wait, Namco is adding extra content to the EU version, including a 'Gallery Mode' which allows access to any skits and includes sketches, illustrations, and art. There will also be head accessories which allows players to customise the characters in battle and also add new special effects to fights. One more thing to note is that  the press release mentions four players can play cooperatively. In the JP/NA versions only two characters can play at the same time. Monsters, and original Symphonia characters in the 3-4 player slot were not playable. Original Symphonia characters are likely playable even if they're in the 3-4 player slot and monster are possibly playable as well.

NAMCO BANDAI GAMES EUROPE ANNOUNCES 'TALES OF SYMPHONIATM: DAWN OF THE NEW WORLD' FOR Wii

Follow-up to Smash-Hit RPG Coming to Wii in Europe and PAL Regions this Autumn 2009, with Exclusive New Content

CERGY-PONTOISE, FRANCE – 22 April 2009 – NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe today announced that role-playing title Tales of Symphonia™: Dawn of the New World is heading to Europe and PAL regions this autumn 2009 with exclusive new content. Only on Wii™, the game continues the story of the best-selling Tales of Symphonia™ for Nintendo GameCube™, while introducing a new monster collection system that lets players capture, evolve and do battle with more than 200 monsters alongside a huge cast of new and returning characters.

Set two years after the events of the award-winning Tales of Symphonia, Dawn of the New World introduces two new young heroes, Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi, as they journey to find the cause of a catastrophic change in their world. Crossing paths with fan-favourite characters such as Lloyd, Colette and Sheena, the brave adventurers will also encounter a spirit known as Ratatosk, lord of all monsters, who will grant them new and incredible powers over the fearsome creatures that now roam the land.

Debuting a major new gameplay system for the Tales series, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World allows players to capture more than 200 unique monsters that they face in battle. Players can feed these monsters to make them more powerful, and even evolve them into several new fearsome forms. Up to three monsters can be taken into any battle situation, offering unique benefits against enemies and imparting new strategic depth to the Tales series’ lauded real-time battle system.

Brand new content exclusive to the PAL version of Tales of Symphonia™: Dawn of the New World include the Gallery Mode and head accessories. Unlocked once the game is completed, the Gallery Mode includes a Skits Library containing viewable skits of the gameplay, and an Image Library with a wealth of design sketches, illustrations, pack art and more. The game also contains a number of new themed masks and head accessories for Emil and Marta which are exclusive to the PAL version and allow players to customise the characters in battle and will also add new special effects during fights.

Featuring a massive cast of returning playable characters, Dawn of the New World offers complete freedom in creating a custom party that best suits the needs of each enemy encounter. Up to four players can enjoy the full game together cooperatively, working together to strategically complete each battle.

Great news, I finally bought the game in NA this week!
I love the game, it is a nice mix of old school and new school and the real time fighting is sweet as always. It is a little slow in the beginning but most long RPGs are a little slow at first ;)

This should give it a nice boost in sales which it deserves!

@ Soriku

Well, I have a hard time wondering if Vesperia and Eternal Sonata are worth the wait and they're changing much more than what you mentioned.

130.000 in others (where i´m from) should be possible. Then we would have a gold game. Depends on the legs.

I don't even have the first title, but I'm going to buy a copy of it even if it costs 50 Euro here.
Can't wait for ToS:DotNW

Besides, on the legendia part, legendia may seems weak but it is much more close to phantasia than any crap made after it, during the abyss era. It was a 3d game that doesn't forgot 2d battle system, humor and above everything else : not great scenario but something that is nothing more than what should be in a tales game : something clear, something simple, something made out of characters' story and not about the world and that they are puppets in this world, like abyss. when i want to follow a rpg, i don't to think "oh yeah, i have a team that is a bunch of visitors in this world, could have been anyone else it would not make any difference", no i want some characters that have their fate in their hands, that are not waiting for the world to move for us, instead they change the world before it changes their action.

oh yes, i played the first tos, and i liked it almost as much as its father and son, tales of phantasia (father because phantasia was the first tales, son because phantasia is THE sequel to symphonia, happening 4000 after it).

And it's not because i liked tos that i liked tos 2, your statement is bullshit. tos has everything from battle system to graphics to world map to history that makes it great. your dear tos 2 is a piece of crap that mixes the battle system of that piece of abyssal crap, the graphics of that abyssal crap (abyssal means it came from tota, which is the first full 3d crap tales), it is mixed with pokemon (which, till silver/gold/crystal, was good), it has no map while tos and top has one (especially when you think that a snes game as the same map as a wii game and that in 1995 we can freely navigate through it but not in 2008...) and it has pathetic new characters and new story.

If namco really wanted to make a good sequel to tales of symphonia 1st the great, they could have called it Tales of symphonia : Phantasia prelude and makes it happen when cless' parents, mint's mother and morrisson first fought dhaos.

That would have been a great use of that universe, not that piece of crap.

Even as a big Tales fan, this game was quite weak. The new content is quite underwhelming, too.

theARTIST0017 (on 22 April 2009)

This game is average. its cool to play if you want to know what happens next and enjoy the story but overall the original was waaaaay better. Vesperia didnt do very well on the 360 and that i know Namco-Bandai must be kicking themselves for that and that is why it is being ported to the PS3 with a new playable character :) but those people who say Vesperia is the best RPG of this gen oh ho ho just wait till Tales of Bataille for the Wii comes out. I assure you it will be the best !

Four player coop is gonna get wacky! Me like.

@ben have you even fucking played tos. If you likes the original in any way it's nearly impossible to dislike TOS. The game just added to the formula that made the original so great.
