downvotes don't make it less true :P The total gap as of the articles date for ps4 numbers should be 5,487,824

Hadn't followed this in recent months so I somehow thought PS4 was pretty level with Wii but I guess not.

At least the last two months the article has the wii numbers one month ahead

  • 0
cusman TruckOSaurus (on 09 September 2015)

Wii hardware numbers included many that only bought it for Wii Sports and probably never anything else.

PS4 hardware numbers include mainly established gamers looking for their next gaming machine.

They should add software sales numbers along with the hardware numbers to give better picture of what that gap really is.

Why do these articles keep comparing the wii one month more than the ps4, the wii hit 31,452,735 the week ending August 30th. 2008 The ps4 numbers are only through July. The wii was at 30,257,416 then, so the total gap is of by over a million.

Does anyone really think the PS4 won't outsell the Wii? Really..? It's guaranteed that it will.

  • 0
JWeinCom Roronaa_chan (on 07 September 2015)

No, because there is no guarantee that the PS4 will have the lifespan the PS3 did. The PS4 is not nearly as advanced relative to its times as the PS360 were, and there are more competing products. It seems likely that PCs will be able to outperform the PS4 at lower prices within a few years. Tablets, steam boxes, and even the NX can potentially disrupt the market to shorten the PS4's lifespan.

Sure the PS4 may outsell the Wii in the long run, but if you feel confident enough to use the word guaranteed, I'd love to see your crystal ball.

I want to add regarding JW's comment is that it still has the X1 to compete.

ps4 will end up selling more regardless.

  • 0
Qwark (on 05 September 2015)

Oh well it will get up there in time due to the probably longer lasting life span of the PS4. But still that Wii is unbeatable in therms of yearly sales

PS4 is even more impressive considering it isn't a casual machine.

true.

  • -4

So... it's more impressive because it appealed to less people. Such logic.

  • +10
Mystro-Sama Mystro-Sama (on 05 September 2015)

Are you dumb? If something appeals to a "smaller" group and sells near the amount of something that appeals to damn near everyone then that must mean that the company selling the one that appeals to less more be doing something right.

  • -9
JWeinCom Mystro-Sama (on 05 September 2015)
  1. No. I'm much smarter than you. How do I know I'm smarter? Because I'm not the one flaming people over a video game sales article. Pro-tip when you ask if someone is dumb, you're the one who comes off looking like an idiot.

  2. They're not selling near the same amount. The gap is fairly large and it's going to grow a lot over the next two years. Maybe it will catch up someday, but as of now that statement is false unless you're using an incredibly liberal definition of close.

  3. If they actually are selling near the same amount then they have the same amount of appeal. The group they sell to is the group that they appeal to. Common sense bro. Unless you think that the people that aren't buying the product are part of the group it appeals to. Lol.

  4. Your bias is hilarious. Yes, clearly the company that appeals to less people is the one doing something right. Do you honestly think that Sony does not want to appeal to casual gamers? I guess the bundles with Lego games are meant to appeal to hardcore gamers? Do you think Sony's sitting in a room saying "let's make sure this appeals only to harcore gamers. And if any of those dirty casuals try to give us their money we'll spit on them"?

  5. Do you think Nintendo just said "hey this is a casual system" and instantly got 6 million extra sales? No, they appealed to a larger group because they thought of a product that appealed to the group and marketed it well. But of course they shouldn't get any credit for that.

  6. Basically what you're saying is that "Sony deserves more credit because they sold more among the people that like their product." Which is lolol ridiculous. It's like saying "The Wii U's sales are more impressive than the PS4's, because they sold all of those units while only appealing to Nintendo fans."

Congratulations on pointing out that the PS4 is doing better among people who like the PS4. But, considering that a company's objective should be to sell their product to as many people as possible, call me unimpressed.

What yall except? 400$ vs 250$ and a lot of casuals who bought the wii.

  • -7
Nintyfan90 Ruler (on 05 September 2015)

According to Sony a significant part of the PS4 userbase come from Wii/360 right? If so wouldn't that make part of the PS4s userbase casual?

  • +9
darkenergy Ruler (on 05 September 2015)

Again with the pointless price comparison.

  • +1
JWeinCom Ruler (on 05 September 2015)

So what you're saying is that Nintendo came up with a good way to market their system to the masses and priced their product appropriately?

Waiting for the fanboys to come in and say the usual bs, oh the ps4 is 400 to the wii 250, so it's not a fair comparison, or the fanboy saying, we'll the wii dropped like a rock after 3 years... oh, shit, too late, they already said it. Pretty soon, these fanboys are going to say dumb shit like, the wii dropped after 1 year, or anything else that may fit the typical fanboy agenda. Sorry fanboys, the wii outsells the ps4, and will continue to outsell it for a long time, like for like, until, if ever, the ps4 finally outsells it. So, until then, just accept it. No amount of fanboy spin will change that.

Can I imagine how a $400 Wii sells with 100% 3rd party support?

  • -1
Robert_Downey_Jr. Justagamer (on 05 September 2015)

it's just simple logic. The Wii's trajectory made this early lead predictable. Just as its fast decline and Playstation's staying power for home consoles means odds are PS4 surpass Wii

  • +1

Dr.Vita (on 05 September 2015)

Wii was much cheaper than PS4 (250€ vs 400€)...
And Wii dropped like a rock after 3 years...
PS4 will destroy Wii at the end!

  • -10
JWeinCom Dr.Vita (on 05 September 2015)

Come on man, this is a sales site. You can easily look up numbers before saying something so blatantly wrong.

In its fourth full year, the Wii sold 17 million units. More than the 360 and PS3 sold that year, and more than they would ever sell in any year. An 18% drop from a monstrously huge year is hardly what I'd call dropping like a stone. The Wii would stay above 10 million until the year the Wii U was released.
