PlayStation 4 No Longer Sold at a Loss - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 27 May 2014 / 16,833 Views

When the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013 it was sold at a loss. However Sony said it would recoup the loss by selling a game and a PlayStation Plus subscription. Sony has now announced that it is now selling each PlayStation 4 at a profit.

It has also been reported that half of the 7 million plus PlayStation 4 owners have purchased a PlayStation Plus subscription. That would equal roughly 3.5 million people have subscribed to the PlayStation Plus service at $50 per year.

Sony also expects to sell a combined 17 million PlayStation 3s and PlayStation 4s during its current fiscal year. However, no breakdown was given on specific sales for each console.

Was queing for my copy of wolfenstein on xbox one today at game. All the little kids around me were asking their parents for a PS4. Seems like thats gonna be the cool console to own this gen to impress their friends....i love my one but microsoft are fighting a losing battle this time around, at least in the general public's eye.

I think you are right. My kids friends have all decided PS4. It will get to a point where it will snowball as later adopter get the console that their friends have.

Watch as people now start clamoring for a price cut. Hopefully when price cut time does come the console is still sold at a profit. I can see $50 increments for price cuts as that way staying in profit per unit is easy to achieve but still bringing in price cuts at reasonable intervals.

Bring on the future price cuts and the long awaited sequels to classic series and 7th generation game series. Good to see PS+ bringing in a good revenue stream similar to XBox Live Gold.
