PS5 will never surpassed PS4 sales. The price keep getting expensive. It will end at 105-106 lifetime. PS6 will sell even worse than PS5, maybe 40% less

We get it. You don't like the PS5. on literally every sales article covering PS5 you say you don't like the PS5.

Also don't forget, he plays his Switch 2 now more than anything and that will be his main going forward. He reminds everyone of that in every other posts too.

Preferring Switch 2 is fine Steven. Do whatever you prefer. It's just that it would be nice to read a PS5 related sales article without the negativity towards it.

It's because Sony knows they don't have to try anymore due to less competition. They can coast off of third party games alone. So, yeah it probably will be a less desirable system to a lot of people

The only way for the PS5 to catch up to the PS4 would be to do a mega discount along with the release of GTA 6, bringing the PS5 back down to 500 dollars.

Or simply prolong the generation until 2028-2029. Keep in mind that after 2019 (which is this year for PS5) PS4 was dead. Sales begun to drop every following month a lot.

PS5 now already sell quarterly like PS4 fiscal year 2020. Next year gonna be worse

  • 0
XtremeBG Rhyno_888 (on 04 August 2026)

Yes, but this is due to price increases. Next year should be identical to this one, which should end more than the 8M PS4 did in 2020.

FY 2026 (this year) somewhere between 7-7.9 million. I don't think Sony will do heavy sale during black Friday this year. Sony already lost $100-150 each consoles sold. And lost $300 each consoles sold in Japan. They can't subsidize it more. I think they will increase PS5 price again in September/October by $50/$100. So the black Friday sale will be the price today lol

For the calendar year 2025 PS5 sold 17.4M. This year because of the price increases PS5 will finish somewhere around 10-12M (Depending on how much GTA 6 will impact sales). Next year I expect about similar, so let's say 10M. For 2020 PS4 did 8M, and then only 2.5M in 2021. PS5 will outsell the 8M 2020 of the PS4, and will definitely outsell the 2.5M 2021 of PS4 in 2028.

I expect the drop to be small next calendar year, since GTA 6 will be in full force selling. But if prices raise again, then the drop will be bigger, but still, I can't see it doing less than 8M.

Why not? This year only sold 1.6 in Q1, 1.5 in Q2. Let's see this year black Friday performance. I think PS5 will only sold 105-106 lifetime. Can't be more than that. But less than that maybe can happen. FY 2026 = 7.9; FY 2027 (price increase to $750 & $1,000 (disc version discontinued) = 2.5; FY 2028 = 1. I think you forgot that Series S is the cheapest consoles to play GTA6, people who want to save money will buy that instead

This is way too pessimistic. PS5 did over 16M in FY 2025, so you predict more than 50% drop. It will surely be a drop because of those price increases, but the demand won't die so quickly to only sell 10M more. Keep in mind that also, because of this economic situation, the chances of prolonging the generation 1 or 2 years more becomes bigger and bigger. Which can also help greatly for sales.

Well it's possible, I predict Sony will announce price increase to its subsidized PS5 in Japan to 60k-65k yen it will have impact in Japan sales. And another wave of price increase before black friday (during TGS or October) to $749.99 disc, $699.99 digital, $999.99 pro. RAM & SSD situation getting worse, now even CPU, motherboard also follow price increase & manufacturing cost are higher TSMC announced chip manufacturing price increase too. You forget that Sony also shot themselves in the foot last month by announcing discontinued PS5 discs games in January 2028, it will make people uncertain to buy PS5. Anyway GTA6 won't have big impact as you think it will because we are already on the late cycle of console gen & the high price make people buy refurbished/used version instead. The demand for PS5 already weaker now because many people can't afford to buy one. Not everyone living in advanced economics countries, most of people are struggling in this weak economy, high oil price, high inflation, weak currencies, & war. Anyway you forget that Xbox Series S & Switch 2 also still being sold at cheaper price, most people who not yet upgrade their consoles will buy them instead. Important to know Sony data is sell-in (means sell to retailers, distributors, & sitting in warehouses), actual sell-through is 96%-97% from 95.3. I never saw PS5 being sold out this year and last year, with Sony keep shipping low amount of PS5 each quarters mean too many unsold PS5

No one is denying PS5 sales are dropping. The question is how much. I don't think they will drop as much as you say. That's all. Also I am not sure about the boost GTA 6 will have. I just expect anything. It can boost them a lot, it can boost them slightly, and it can do nothing at all. We will see.

In the end the outcome will be the same. Lifetime sales will be 105/106. It could be 105.5/105.9/106.5 or whatever. My prediction is based on the lowest possible outcome which is 105.1 lifetime projection

  • 0
XtremeBG Rhyno_888 (on 05 August 2026)

Unless PS6 releases by end of next year, lifetime totals will be more than 106M.

Rhyno_888 XtremeBG (on 06 August 2026)

Well it will be 2027. Why would Sony let Xbox get headstart?
