Apple Sells 5 Million iPhone 5s in 3 Days, Fastest Selling iPhone - News

Apple has announced they have sold more than five million units of its iPhone 5 in its first weekend. This sets a record for the highest opening for an iPhone in Apple's history. Despite setting a record the smartphone is sold out in many retailers and Apple is "working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone."
The iPhone 4S which holds the previous record sold four million units in its opening weekend in October 2011. Also the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 million units in its first three days on sale.
Baird Equity Research analyst William Power believed that "sales could have potentially been much higher if not for supply constraints." Some analysts had expected the iPhone 5 to sell as much as 10 million units in its opening weekend.
"We are not overly concerned with this 'disappointing' number as we believe this is a classic case of near-term expectations getting out of touch with reality," Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said. He expects Apple to sell 27 million iPhone in the September quarter and an addition 46.5 million in the December quarter.

marginal improvement on the iphone 4s and on par with samsung s3. apple iphone 5 is only just a smart phone. lol at the people queuing for days to be first in line to buy a phone that is only a small upgrade on their iphone 4s.
I don't have an iPhone...just a regular old cell phone. I think it's silly for anyone to buy any phone with a $80+ a month fee attached. However, what makes you think these people were all upgrading from the 4s? I'm sure a lot of people were at the end of their 3GS or 4.
The galaxy s3 sold NOWHERE NEAR what the iPhone 5 did in its first 3 days...get your facts right before saying stuff like this. Also, it's a huge improvement over the 4S...so you're wrong there too

Other smartphones have caught up to the iPhone in the last couple of years, but the iPhone will continue to be #1 in America for the foreseeable future because it's become a symbol of status in this country.
