They should have had a core game ready for this holidays, or before Q2 2009, the drought is gonna kill me. Not the core game drught, but the 1st party core games drought. Other than that I'm happy with Nintendo.

One last thought, they released almost no games this year for DS or Wii, something has to be going on at Nintendo's HQ's. Slowest year ever for them, or maybe they give Japanese too much love and forget about the rest. Japanese get like 421 Nintendo games / day. We get 1 every 2 years. (exaggerating)

Mario in general seems like a casual franchise these days [this includes Mario Kart].... Smash is some what also geared to the casuals, hardcores just seem to have fun with it aswel. The last true core game I could say for Nintendo was Metroid P3.....

Does it really bother you that much to see people talking positively about the wii? How has this topic done anything to warrant or justify your hateful comments? You're just another bitter HD gamer who sees the dark Nintendo clouds billowing over the horizon as a gloomy sky already looms overhead. You know what's comming, you just don't like it and in a desperate display of futility you try to fight it.

Your strong suit is facts and statistics, but there are none of those to be utilized to your benefit here, all you have is your opinions and contempt for something that doesn't fit your narrow ideal of "real" gaming.

Tell me, are you really content to playing the same games for all eternity on the 360? First Person Shooters, War games, Gun games, Sword games, Gun & Sword games, shallow celebrations of testosterone and Spike TV male culture which you tell yourself this is true and final evolution of gaming? By all means, keep telling yourself rip-offs and placations of movies such as Predator, Aliens and Starship Troopers are revolutionary story telling... In the mean time, we'll look forward to one of the most diverse and innovative game libraries this generation on the Wii. By no means do I suggest the Wii is the godsend of gaming or the end all be all solution, but its the only console I see moving in the right direction this generation towards better things.

While the Wii and DS are making the most money ever seen in Video game history, Sony, Microsoft and the third party developers are going broke trying to make the shallow improvement of HD gaming work, and by the time Nintendo is ready to jump on the HD gaming bandwagon they'll be ready to take full advantage of all that hard work and money lost to make HD gaming an affordable and feasable possibility.

Though tell me, when Nintendo themselves is finally someday HD with a comprehensive online gaming network and everyone else has motion controls and casual gaming, what will you be left with to hold against the big N? How will you convince yourself Nintendo still isn't the console of choice and is just a joke? Don't worry, I'm sure you'll try your hardest to still come up with something. shakes head

 If you go look at the vast majority of game review sites, you will see that the 360 and PS3 have had the best linup of games in 2007 and 2008.  Go look at a review averaging site like Metacritic 360 and PS3 games have significantly more games with high review scores than the Wii.  Then go look at the review scores on sites like IGN.  You see much the same thing.  Wii games have not score as high as 360 or PS3 games in 2007 or 2008 and none of the games that have received early game of the year candidate nods are Wii games .

I actually think this is a very healthy, and quite possiblydeliberate. Third party developers have always complained that they can’t compete with Nintendo’s own games; that whatever they produce will be lost in Mario’s shadow.

Now they have a clear shot and some of them are definitely stepping up to the plate. Mad World, Conduit, COD (if they don’t screw it up again),Red Steel 2, Castlevania, No more Heroes 2, two Star Wars games and the other new third parties coming out will get the attention they deserve.

These are games that would never come from Nintendo and the road is wide open. A good “hardcore” game faces less competition and has a larger potential audience. With 30, 000, 000 out there it doesn’t take a very high attach rate to start ringing up some numbers.

There are more games in development than most people expect, especially the games in the works to use motion plus but needless to say, you won’t hear about most of them until just before release because there is a vacuum waiting to be filled and someone is going to hit the first one out of the park.

Wow this turned into Nintendo fans versus anti-Nintendo enthusiats.
Personal attacks aside the dilema here is perception, quick context: In real life you don't always get what you want.
So who are asking about the games? Well the more you think about it the more you realize those asking for these core games aren't core at all, if they were they would be playing the games not asking for games they don't intend to buy.

As for people comparing Nintendo's strategy to Microsoft and Sony... Last time I checked neither were current market leaders with undisputably the best line-up of games of 2007 and 2008 (Wii)

You may wish to peruse my games collection, and then call me a blind hater. I currently own three Nintendo consoles. I have owned five Nintendo consoles, and do not let my list fool you. I sold off my older hardware, and games to purchase new hardware and new games. All told I have owned over two hundred games for Nintendo consoles.

I dislike what Nintendo is doing, because I know they used to be so much better before they got their casual fetish hard on. Then again it is also true they waned after less then a year with the Game Cube, but the point remains at one time you could count on Nintendo delivering a solid core game every couple of months to their console. Whether they were developing, publishing, or making good alliances.

By the time I had a 64 for six months I had eight quality titles to play. By that time on the Game Cube I had six quality titles. By the time I got a Wii after six months I had three titles not including the pack in game. Are we noticing a trend here. Unless you want casual titles the Wii is almost like the equivalent of a barren wasteland.

Where is the replacement for Rare. Where are Starfox, Pilotwings, WaveRace, and the notable exclusives Nintendo used to have. Sure they are number one in sales, but that is not translating into a lot of great core titles.

That is what I mean when I want to see what Nintendo intends to do about this other then making excuses. There is a decided absence, and why should I the consumer even consider sitting on my hands for long blocks of time. I couldn't that is why I had to get a second console. I was tired of not having anything to play.

Stop thinking of yourself as a servant for Nintendo and ask how they could better serve you. Quite frankly that is their damn job. You should not have to wait all this time to get served. Would you tolerate this from anyone else you do business with so why tolerate it from Nintendo. I would knock on any developer if they were not delivering in a timely manner.

Ask the Sony fanboys I knocked on Sony last year for having long voids in the PS3 lineup. I was right to do so then, and I am right to do so with Nintendo right now.

I never troll.  I do try to reply when someone replies to something I've said with a reply that is not true.

Anyway, I know that IGN and I also believe that this site too had an article on it in the weeks leading up to E3 that said, "Nintendo says they will concentrate on games for core fans" at E3. I remember these threads were full of lists of all of the core games that fans were hoping Nintendo would discuss at their conference. And when all was said and done games like Kid Icarus Wii, Kingdom Hearts 3, Steampunk Zelda, an Earthbound Collection for DS which would finally bring Mother 3 in an English translation to American audiences, and many more as it turned out were very much not what Nintendo discussed at their E3 conference. Then came all the articles about Nintendo saying E3 is not the place to discuss core games when many longtime Nintendo fans complained that they didn't see what they were hoping for at Nintendo's conference.

"lol. They showed Wii Sports two E3s ago, showed Wii Fit last E3, and now they show Wii Music and you COMPLAIN when they showed casual stuff for three years now at E3? Not onyl that but they said they will not show core titles at E3...and you still complain."

Nintendo is stating that they take a lot of time to do those so called "core games", many games you mentioned are not considered "core". Why don't you post to us how many of those "core games" Nintendo released during the whole GC lifetime. I don't think you willl be able to put up a big list.
Therefore, your argument that Nintendo can produce many core games so fast is flawed.
And of course Nintendo won't use all the staff just for "core games" or "casual games", no gaming company has ever achieved that level of profitability.
They hit a great strategy. No need to change a winning team,

Either Donkey Kong Country 4 or a sequel to Donkey Kong 64. It doesn't matter.

Just release a DK game.

Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong are Nintendo's "Big 3", and thus far Donkey Kong is the only one without a full-scale Wii game (DK Barrel Blast doesn't count, since it is a racing spin-off game).

Am I the only one that watched Nintendo's E3 conference, put up with all of the mumbo jumbo they did from the beginning infomercial about Nintendo bringing smiles to faces and all of the hokey things like announcements for games that either no one would be excited for Raving Rabbids 2 and Star Wars Jedi Swordfighting Waggle Edition, and third party multi-console games that are destined to be better on PS3 and 360 because of their superior technological levels -- Call of Duty: World at War, and demos of shovelware like Wii Sports Resort, yet continued to watch because Nintendo themselves announced a couple of weeks before the conference that their E3 demonstration was going to focus on games for its core fans, knowing that if in the next generation a Sony console isn't on the market in the West, then I will have to switch to a new Nintendo console that would hopefully be much more like the next gen's PS3 instead of like its Nintendo's current generation Wii as I prefer Japanese types of games; saw Reggie go up there and say, "We have one more game to show you." while I was thinking it had to be something on the magnitude of Microsoft's announcement of Final Fantasy XIII coming to the 360; thinking, "alright, here it comes, the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3 as a Wii exclusive much as has been discussed on various message boards; and was then instead presented with the announcement of Nintendo's and one of the largest in history by any company for that matter, biggest piece of shovelware ever -- Wii Music.

Yep, that sure did a lot to indicate to me that Nintendo knows exactly where they should be trying to take gaming in the future.

Hahaha, wow. The people crying are priceless. They basically break down into two groups:

A) People who have no interest in Nintendo's core titles and probably don't even own a Wii, but feel the need to bitch and scream at every corner about too much/not enough of certain types of games.

B) Peope who are going to run out and buy whatever games are announce Day One regardless of when they're released or announced.

Basically the whining is pointless.

That's just a tiny section of EAD, ifyou think this has to do with those 6 people somehow rendering Retro Studios, Monolith, Intelligent Systems, etc. from developing rather than actual DEVELOPMENT TIME like the reality of the situation, well then you have little idea of what's actually going on.

Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Strikers Charged, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Wii sports, Metroid Prime 3, Endless Ocean, Links Crossbow Training, Mario Party 8, Super Paper Mario, Wii Degree, Fire Emblem, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Wario Ware, Battalion Wars 2, Excite Truck, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Super Mario Sluggers.

Those twenty games in less then two years basically prove that your blind defense was baseless. Nintendo isn't struggling to deliver games to the market. They are a very large developer. The question is why hasn't Nintendo delivered more games directed at their loyal core demographic. Instead choosing to focus on the casual market in a very heavy fashion.

Regardless of the explanation the result still remains unacceptable. More to the point Nintendo can rectify the problem. They have the financial resources to rectify their internal short comings. Either purchase a third party developer, purchase some exclusive titles from third parties, or increase their internal development staff. Bottom line Nintendo should shut up and put up.

All these statements have painted a pretty terrible picture of the console. They are conceding the situation is a serious problem. Not only that these comments mean a bad situation is going to get much worse. What makes the statements more deplorable is the fact that Nintendo is justifying poor release management instead of presenting a plan to rectify the issue.

Which just cannot be spun into a positive light. Sitting on your ass for over a year waiting for a core game is neglect no matter how you spin it. More to the point is hasn't been as if Nintendo glutted you early either. They did not run themselves down they never really started. There were two core first party titles from Nintendo last year Mario Galaxy and Corruption. All the rest of their software has been casual or middling.

I can understand if Nintendo wants to play both sides of the fence, but the results speak for themselves. They obviously lack the manpower to do this, and in that they sided with developing more casual titles. Remember the staff developing those casual games prior to this generation were developing core game, and it really does show.

I think Disaster may be the next "core" game up for release after Wario, AC, & Wii Music are out. It has been in development for years and was one of the last games leaked before Nintendo adopted the 3-6 months strategy. I heard it has been worked on for at least 3 years now.

Did any of you read the article on Gamepro? There are quite a few good Third party games coming to the wii, but the haters like to say otherwise. The conduit, Mad world, Call of Duty, No More heros 2, Red Steel 2, the Sadness, De Blob, House of the Dead Overkill, Guitar Hero world tour, Rock Band 2, Samba de Amigo, Star wars clone wars, Star wars the force unleashed, there's plenty coming out but since E3 no one has accepted that.

I just wish that Sony or Microsoft could say a game is in development, not show anything, and people be okay with it. It would be awesome if that would happen, but it doesn't, PS360 games announced and not followed up are called 'vaporware', but announcing that Mario and Zelda are coming sometime in the future doesn't yield the same results.

Big surprise. Nintendo has games in development that are a long way off from being finished. That sounds exactly the same as Microsoft and Sony to me. But unlike their competitors, Nintendo won't even announce a game until it's nearly finished (six months to a year away from completion). How long have we been hearing about Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo, anyway? I guess it's your personal preference as to whether you like the early hype versus the cloud of secrecy. I don't really care either way; I pretty much never read previews of anything. Focus on what you have now, not what's months (and years away).

Did anyone actually read the article and notice this:

"The statement was published at the end of - although apparently not in response to - a ten-point list outlining the magazine's interpretation of Nintendo's decision to focus on profitable casual products with lower overheads."

Typical Edge magazine - or hardcore in general. Nintendo is flat-out telling them, "we are not neglecting core gamers", but they go ahead and make up some story about "casuals" anyway. Are the gaming journalists even listening anymore?

Anyway back on topic...It's obvious that Nintendo hasn't abandoned the core game to focus on Wii ____ titles. After all it's like a new policy of theirs to not announce games until they are near completion, which I like. Look at FF 13, it's been in development for how long since it was announced? yeah...

Only the fanboys would deny Nintendo's focus on core gamers. Nintendo has produced more quality core games than either Sony or Microsoft this generation (and every generation for that matter) You should be focusing your hatred on third parties for not assisting Nintendo in catering to the core audience.

We got Super mario galaxy, Metriod Prime 3, SSBB, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, Paper Mario, in a way a Zelda and animal crossing coming soon. That is at least 7 core nintendo titles, if they release another 7 that would be huge but they can't release 14 core titles in the first 2 years..

For Nintendo -- it is pick your poison.

Show something too early, get ripped for it not being good and then get ripped when it is delayed.

Show something late, get ripped for being vague until it is ready and for not giving enough notice.

Ironically, the same people who criticized Nintendo when they used to provide plenty of lead time, only to take a while to deliver the goods, do not always give the other consoles the same treatment.

In other words, Zelda Wii will beat FF XIII to market (at least in North America and Europe), but people will still be upset at Nintendo and bowing to S-E.

Well that just isn't true. We are going to have some great games this year geared towards the core gamer. It's just that most of them won't be from Nintendo. The one game on the Wii that IS geared towards the hardcore is Warioland: Shake It! And this looks to be a doozy.

For third parties titles that are core oriented, we have quite a few:
ToS, CoD, Dead Rising, Mega Man 9 (truly hardcore), and many more.

If Nintendo had showed you guys anything you would have complained about it anyways, even though the game is three years from being done. Oh the graphics suck, the story is stupid, the controls dont work. no matter what Nintendo does Sony and Microsoft fans will find something to complain about.

You people need to shut up. Do you see sony, and MS pumping out core games like nintendo did last year? and you complained that there was nothing for the core last year on wii? Nintendo kick started the wii, and I guess they're relying on third parties more right now, but they obviously have a new zelda that uses motion plus, a new mario galaxy, and possibly a new pikmin in development. These games take years. Why don't you big core gamers go buy battalion wars, fire emblem, zack and wiki, no more heroes, and all the other hardcore games that had weak sales? On top of this wii's third party future has only gotten stronger and stronger. This year you'll get guitar hero world tour, little kings story, mega man 9, de blob, deadly creatures, animales de la muerte, dead rising, and more. Then Q1 2009 you have the conduit, madworld, cursed mountain, fatal frame, and thats not enough. How many games do you need. Plus nintendo is releasing wario land, and animal crossing.

O'rly Nintendo? Then why don't you start naming some... it's been quite some time since we've had a first party "core gamer" type game from you guys, Brawl being the last, and even that's somewhat geared towards casuals. There's nothing in the forseeable future on Nintendo's release list that even remotely resembles a "core game"... we'll have to wait till at least Q2 of '09 to get anything from Nintendo if we are lucky.
